Lou Dobbs Cohort Kitty Pilgrim saying all our Vitamin C Supplements are Chinese Imports
Edited on Mon Apr-23-07 05:37 PM by KoKo01
and that no one is looking into this massive importation of Chinese Vitamin C in our FOOD SUPPLY as well as supplements and that there are other "unregulated supplements" from China that aren't being EXAMINED.

Lou says ..."THIS IS DISGRACEFUL!" and "WHY is the New Democratic Congress NOT having HEARINGS ON THIS!"

I'm not sure what I think about this latest SCARE...they also got into the Wheat Gluten and made it seem that ALL our Supplements are Imported from China and TAINTED.

I wonder if that's true. If Lou is a Libertarian why is he carrying on about DEMS not investigating this instead of looking at the BUSH FDA APPOINTMENTS!

 WHO does LOU REALLY WORK FOR?

1. All? I think Miss Kitty may be overstating the case.
Ditch the scare tactics, Lou.

2. I worked for a large vitamin manufacturer for 13 years. They've
been importing the ingredients for Vit. Cas far back as I can remember, and that was 1976. I know this won't be much comfort to you, but they had a very well staffed chem . lab and tested EVERYTHING when it came in the door and would NOT release it to inventory until it passed some pretty strict tests. The ingredients were also again tested after being pulled from inventory but before putting into the mixer on the production line, and AGAIN the finished product was tested before it ever left the plant.

We had products refused because they didn't pass the tests, but never in the whole time I was there was any product recalled.

Even though the FDA doesn't test vitamin formulations, they do plant inspections, and the manufacturers I'm familiar with are very cautious with their own safety testing. They are well aware they could lose their entire business if a "health food" product needs recalled...especially if it turned out to be their fault!

5. Yes it was, but the plants stilldo their own testing, just they had
before Shrub. I really do believe they are more concerned about the pureness of their products than the FDA would be...especially NOW!

I'm much more concerned with the human food supply of vegetables, fruits, andmeats than I ever would be of the vitamin business.

the DSHEA of 1994, which completely unregulated the vitamin market. Thanks to Orrin Hatch.

This has nothing to do with the FDA -- the FDA cannot regulate vitamins under the law unless there is a death tied to a specific vitamin.

6. It's the Orin Hatch connection to Supplements that bothered me, also...he
worked hard to defeat any supplement regulation because it was supporting his constiuency. BUT...we know the US Market goes to the "cheapest supplier" so all that "ground up" stuff that we think is pure can only be found sometimes grown in countries that have the expertise and seeds and supplies.

That Means ASIA for MANY SUPPLEMENTS. I sometimes think the Pro-Supplement Crowd at DU doesn't really EXAMINE where their supplies are coming from or question the TESTING.

Lots of ingredients for "Supplements" just can grow in US Soil...it has (like spices) to be IMPORTED from places where the cultivation of the plants and seeds can productive.
