7. I hope she doesn't--she's just what France does NOT need
I remember the last time the PS (socialists) won.

They went around sending gestapo-like terror units to
harass any small business (over 99% legit) they could
looking for the tiniest financial violations and treated
the shop owners as if they were Mafia killers, and the less
they found, the more evil they got, juts figuring that if
the guy looked clean, he must be just that much better at
hiding things. They had the Douanes (customs) searching the
pockets/pocketbooks of every departing passenger at the airports
to see if they had more than $300 in cash to confiscate.

French employment laws make it just about impossible to fire
an employee even if he or she is robbing you blind or not
showing up for work at all. The employment tribunals are
stacked with socialists who never give the employer a break.
It'S no accident that French unemployment has been at near 10%
for so long under such a system. Royal wants to preserve most
of it intact. Sarkozy wants to liberalize it somewhat, although
not nearly enough to really get the country where it needs to be.

Whoever said that the "conservative" Sarkozy was farther to the left
of many US Democrats is right on the mark. To find a French
politician anywhere near our Republicans, you'd have to go as
far right as Le Pen.
