Modesto Cop Shoots Man Carrying Replica Gun
Modesto Cop Shoots Man Carrying Replica Gun

MODESTO, CA - Investigators were piecing together the circumstances that led a Modesto police officer to shoot a man who allegedly tried to sell a replica firearm as a real weapon Thursday evening, according to a police spokesman

The shooting happened near the Jack in the Box restaurant at the corner of J and 17th streets in downtown Modesto around 6:20 p.m. Thursday, Modesto police Sgt. Brian Findlen said.

Moments before the shooting, two officers arrived at the 100 block of McHenry Avenue after a man called 911 to report someone had tried to sell him a gun.

A Modesto police officer approached a man matching the description of the suspected gun seller outside the Jack in the Box who was armed with an authentic-looking replica firearm. The confrontation led the officer to pull his weapon and fire several times at the suspect, Findlen said.

Findlen said the suspect, identified as a man in his early 40s, was taken to a nearby hospital. His wounds were not expected to be life-threatening, Findlen said.

1. Sparse info, glad the man survived.
No clues whatsoever in the story as to why shots were fired, chalk that up to amatuer reporting, hopefully details will be forthcoming.

3. Don't bring a fake gun to a gun fight. Educational video included.
It has coarse and politically incorrect language - not for the easily offended....

4. The suspect was stupid and almost won the ultimate stupid prize.

First for trying to con people into buying a fake gun as a real gun, and, second, for brandishing what appeared to be a real gun in front of a cop armed with a very real gun.
