1. Other:
I hope so.
Nixon had the common sense to resign.
Sadly, I fear that the Monkey does not.

30. Actually Bush accomplished more than Nixon in that Bush stole 2 elections.
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 04:38 PM by liberaldemocrat7
Nixon did watergate because he wanted to reveal dirty information on Democrats in order to win the 72 election.

Bush actually stole the 2000 and 2004 elections by vote suppression and voter roll purging. Bush did not need to burglarize Democratic Headquarters, because he interfered with our voters instead.

I consider Bush worse than Nixon and more dangerous to civil liberties and the plight of the poor and the middle class.

In fact I call Bush either SloboGeorge MiloseBush or Caligula on the potomac.

Now George Washington appears the father of our country. That would make George W Bush, the Grim Freeper of our country.

3. Only in his wildest dreams will he be remembered as fondly as Nixon.
Milhouse wins hands down over W. They're not even in the same league.

6. He might actually be worse when all is set and done.
If he provokes a war with Iran, the economic and political fallout could end up crippling America for the first half of the 21st century and render America little better than a pariah state, a state not to be trusted and feared like the Soviet Union.

10. No; Nixon was a reasonably intelligent man. Sneaky and dirty. While the characters
surrounding had some cheap crooks among them, I don't think they would have gone as far as the current international criminals in world affairs and screwed up so much. I don't think they were of the hateful bigoted evangelical-fundamentalist religious class that is running the country now. Bush**-Rove is in a class by himself.

11. Nixon, while wrong about how to implement his ideas, usually had the American people's
best interests at heart. Of course he was an egomaniacal, bigoted, arrogant, son-of-a-bitch, but that seems to go along with the desire to be President.

Arbusto, OTOH, does not have anybody but his bases (big money) interests in his. Much worse than Nixon.

14. for all his faults (and there were many) Nixon was a self made man
who also was much more intelligent than Bush. I also think he was mentally ill with a huge inferiority complex and felt that everyone was out to get him which led to many of his criminal excesses.

15. Compared to Bush, Nixon Wasn't So Bad.
That's what the bumper sticker on my car says.

What Bush has done is much, much worse than what Nixon did. They are both Repugs, and they are both liars.

I only hope Bush follows Nixon's lead. RESIGN!

...and many of the goons surrounding Chimpy got their start in the Tricky Dick years, so there were always similarities.

But Nixon at least cared enough about the planet to create the EPA.

rather than Jerry Ford. In all likelihood poppy could have been confirmed.

23. That is an interesting question...
perhaps it was Jerry's thank you card and bouquet of flowers for the Warren Commission cover-up. I've had to restock my tinfoil hat wardrobe after Poppy's eulogy at the Ford funeral. He gave a big in your face fuck you on the Warren Commission and to the JFK "conspiracists".

The truth behind the Watergate break in actually concerns events that happened years before. Specifically, 9 years before in Dallas Texas. And that Watergate break in was in 1972, of course.

Here's young Tricky Dick in the old days with crime lord Prescott Bush....

29. Probably because every Republican administration since 1952
Has been made up of the same people: The Bush Crime Family. Ironically enough, Ike Eisenhower, the first Bush Crime Family president saw through their agenda and knew where it would ultimately lead. His final address to America as President was a warning to us all....

A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.

Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peacetime, or indeed by the fighting men of World War II or Korea.

Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Unfortunately, Ike's warning was ignored. Less than three years later, the same criminals who put him in office would murder his successor and it would all be downhill from there :(

The difference being that we had a tough congress back then who got rid of Nixon despite all the timid voices who said it was "dangerous".

The difference between the Chimpenfuhrer and Tricky Dick is only in degree. With both of them, there's the blatant corruption, the secrecy, paranoia and vicious attacks on anyone perceived as a threat. But Bush and company have left Nixon in the dust long ago...

Oh, and Nixon actually occasionally did something useful during his presidency, like making peace with China. Bush hasn't done one good, productive, useful thing at all while president. Not one thing.
