Future 2010 campaign ads for both Republicans and Democrats
What can those be? Republicans can only run on saying NO to the Democrats and being very unsuccessful in that endeavor. Democrats can run on reversing bad recession, on enacting largest overhaul in Health Care Industry since FDR, on winding down Iraq, on bolstering our Armed Forces and Veterans, Ending Torture, beginng the closure of Gitmo, Banking Reform particularly on Credit Cards. I am sure there is much much more on the Democrats side but can not think of any other things Republicans can campaign on..And they think they are going to be elected in a landslide..... I don't get it..

2. Not to be cynical, but the only thing people care for right now is jobs and the economy
if those elements improve significantly, whoever is in power will be favored

5. The HCR mandates will be used by the GOP within the context of the economy
"The Democrats raised taxes on millions of Americans in the middle of the worst economy since the Great Depression"

Bet on it.

And........it will resonate with the average person.

3. Republicans: Democrats have not started any new Aircraft Carriers.
Instead the soft-on-war Democrats spend money on roads, public education and doctors. Damn Socialists!

4. Republicans can run on not supporting an insurance bill
that forced you to buy an overpriced, shoddy product from a for profit company.

They won't bother to mention they stood in the way of meaningful reform - and the public won't remember that either.

9. What did Democrats accomplish between 2002-2006
Pretty much nothing since they were the minority, same as the Republicans are now. The Democrats said NO to everything during that time frame and are in power now, it works both ways. The Republicans will benefit from the Democrats having a lower voter turnout, less volunteers, less in donations, and less enthusiasm because Obama won't we on the ballot. People are getting more and more pissed by the day and that is usually bad news for the people in charge, the minority party can throw their hands up and say "Not our fault, these guys are running the show", "vote for us for a change".

15. Democrats are not so hung up on being a winner.
They just {supposedly) want to do the right thing. Democrats actually try to Govern. Republicans have to Rule and know nothing really about governing..To a Republican being on the losing side is unacceptable, to a Democrat it isn't really much of an issue.

14. Agreed - they will run on their failure to provide a solution
but they will manage to spin it so it sounds like they were "protecting" the public from the Democrats "government healthcare". And most the media will help them do it.

11. That is a double edged sword, and a lot can happen between now and next November
If the economy and jobs start improving, the dynamics will change dramatically

7. How soon we forget
The Democrats were unable to do anything while in the minority, just like the republicans now. Voter turnout will decide the next election, not the issues. Many Democrats and independents that got excited the last two election cycles are disappointed with the way things have gone. That will mean less money donated, less time volunteered for campaigns, and less people going to the polls. Plus in 2010 the members of congress don't have the extra push that having Obama on the ballot created, many people turned out for party line voting because he was running, they may stay home with less incentive to vote next year.
