Well, at least there's this...
...as much as the Senate bill is considered a grave disappointment by many here on DU, at least it looks like the Republicans and Joe Lieberman cannot gloat that they were able to filibuster the bill into the ground.

I hate that so many compromises and concessions were made to get us to this point, and it looked like the ones who we made the compromises for were still going to vote against the bill anyway, so why bother?

But at least the Senate Republicans have learned that their ability to hold the Senate hostage is no longer absolute.

1. Yep. The repukes, standing 100% against it, doing everything within
their power could not stop it. They are powerless.

Now, to get some liberal replacements for the conservadems that weakened the bill....

4. And maybe Texas can replace Kay Bailout with a Democrat at long last
We've got John Sharp running for her seat, and it looks like he'll run unopposed in the primary. If KBH does follow through and drop out, I don't think any of her primary challengers can muster enough momentum to fight Sharp toe-to-toe.

3. This bill stinks, and I don't care who gets bragging rights.
I care about the American People, and this bill does more harm than good.

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

5. Hey, I agree with you...
...and I know I've been placed on too many ignore lists over it, but you speak the truth. Our only hope now is that the House-Senate Conference will enable the final bill to slow the bleeding a little bit.

10. Thanks.
I have little hope that the bill con be improved in Conference. I don't think we can get the Senate to support a bill with substantial changes.

Regardless, my position now is pretty-much fixed. And it is as follows ...

Kill the bill.

6. The bill stinks / it is a victory for Obama
I bet i will hurt the Dems in 2010, and 2012, but that Obama will sweep re-election in 2012..

12. Just like Clinton.
Triangulation helps the sitting President but causes us to get slaughtered in Congress.

The 1990s were not a good time for progressives. I was hoping to avoid a repeat.

Kill the bill.

7. I don't see politics as a game
scoring meaningless "points" against the (R) team doesn't interest me at all.

9. I feel the same way...
...but thanks to Lieberman and the Conservadems, the Senate's been over a barrel on this legislation.

I think the bill should be killed, but not by a Republican filibuster. Our Senators bastardized this bill, so now it's their responsibility to clean up their own mess.

8. I'm not so sure about that.
When you look at what their masters received from this on the one side, and the fact that they could just vote no and look like heroes to their own base, what need to filibuster?

11. When middle class Independents realize what this bill will mean to them...
They will turn their backs on Obama and become life long Republicans. I honestly believe it will destroy the party in the end.

The up side is, the pukes won't have to lie anymore. Telling the truth about what the Democratic party has wrought will suffice.
