2. Your question needs to go further
If it eliminates preexisting conditions does it limit the premiums the insurers can charge?

I could see this bill eliminating preexisting conditions (great PR) while doing nothing to prevent the insurance companies from raising rates based on preexisting conditions (great for profits).

9. Bingo and when they are done with the bill you can bet the insurance
companies will make sure that whatever is in the bill will not cut into their profits.

10. thats the trick I heard
Eliminate pre-existing conditions, but can charge MORE for "risk factor" things like high BP, cholesterol, etc and older age.

3. Children immediately - adults in 2014 BUT there is a high risk pool
available in 90 days from signing available to anyone with PCs and without insurance for the previous six months AND they can age rate at 4:1.

Helpful or not? For some a possible lifesaver.

5. For those who can afford it.
That's a hell of a choice for some people, dropping insurance for six months. It's why people don't change jobs now.

6. I know. I completely question that provision. It's inane and heartless
and exposes people to incredible medical and financial risks during that six month period.

It works if someone currently has PC and has been uncovered for a awhile, but there is a whole group of peple who have PCs who have been paying ungodly amopunts to KEEP themselves insured - what are they supposed to do?

4. This is going to be a nail in the Dem coffin come next November
Older people vote in larger numbers. If our older age groups get a screwing, it's going to be pretty bad even if we stay home.

7. Will it help if they put the Medicare money back in Medicare prior to the election?
Proper funding and scheduling of Medicare reimbursements is a CONSTANT concern whether or not HCR gets passed.

11. It's bad that people not yet eligible for Medicare get a screwing
Hubby and I won't be eligible for several years. Our premiums will likely skyrocket by what's proposed. So, Medicare reimbursements are only one aspect that needs fixing.

Btw, I fully expected to pay some more in premiums so that everyone could get covered. But I never expected what's allowable in the Senate bill as it's now written.

13. If you are older and I am, the prices will be set so you pay more
about 3 times. Older people will naturally be those with
pre-existing conditions.

14. Supposedly..
.... but since the bill was probably more or less written by the insurance companies, I would not expect this to be true in actual practice.

Unless the language of the law is incredibly comprehensive, they will find a way around it - either they will find a way to call a pre-existing condition something else, or they will charge so much nobody could afford it.
