1. The other adverb would be "sideways," as in, "Senator Reid,
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 04:55 PM by rateyes
shove this bill up your ass sideways."

4. +1
I already voted for "adamantly against" but I change my vote to "sideways". I think someone in the meanwhile should go ask Senator Coburn if he needs this one read to him too...we won't have a vote before March if he says yes.

2. I would like a better bill and I hope conference can fix it
but with people's lives at stake, I can't do anything but support it's passage. Hopefully future bills can improve things, just like it did with social security.

3. Adamantly for Killing a FASCIST bill.
A mandate without a STRONG public option and STRICT regulation of the Health Insurance Industry is FASCISM!

7. the bill sucks but there will be no second bill to go to reconcilliation with
this is it. The kleptocracy has given us this moldy rotten scrap. If we don't eat it, they are not going to serve something better.

8. In favor, but not particularly enthusiastic...
The bill isn't all it could have been, but it seems to have been designed with reasonable benefit to the average low- and middle-income American, and with care taken to restrict the penalties involved in the mandate to relatively high-income individuals and families. (I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "pretend" mandate, but it won't seriously affect most Americans.) According to the CBO, premiums under the current proposal will be as low as those under the previous proposal (the one with a public option -- which probably tells you how weak the public option had become in previous versions).

Mostly, I'm in favor of it because, if it turns out (before mandates take effect in four years) that the current plan will be insufficient to provide affordable health care, the regulatory portions of the law will be in place, so the funding mechanisms of setting up a real public option or Medicare buy-in (including "Medicare for all") would be passable via reconciliation -- which is really not the case with this bill. Essentially, adopting this with 60 votes would mean it would only take 51 votes down the line for any of those more-sweeping reforms. So, it's a needed start, even if not all I would wish it had been from the get-go.

12. Kill the bill. It stinks.

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.
