So when do we start paying for this shit sandwich?
Presuming the House passes it and/or doesn't change it to something better?

7. Most of us probably won't have to pay anything...
...because you're exempt from penalties if premiums for the cheapest available policy for you come to 8% or more of your gross income.

For example, based on the available plans FEHB offers for Washington state (which is probably a good indication of what you can hope for in terms of future policies on the exchange), you could only be penalized for not obtaining insurance if you were an individual with gross income above around $44,800, or a family with gross income above around $99,000. (And, frankly, if you're in those income zones, you probably have employer-provided insurance already.)

10. Well, that's a meaningless hypothetical...
...because they could just as easily eventually institute a public option. Or go to a single-payer system. Or the Republicans could take control, and shut the whole program down. Or...

Personally, I'm getting tired of people, instead of talking about what's in the bill, deciding to make prognostications based on their assumption that things will be changed -- usually in a negative direction -- from what's in the bill now.

12. Sorry, the donkey did a tap dance on my rose colored glasses
I honestly thought with a Democratic majority, and a President who promised HOPE, we'd get something better than this bill. They had it all worked out when Rahm decided we were going to negotiate with the insurance companies. No Public Option, just a gift to the bastards who've been screwing us anyway.
So no, I don't have any HOPE for positive change any more.

Do mandates apply?

4. Pay up 1st, unlike wars, citizens have to pay up for 3 to 5 years
before some of this crap goes into affect.

9. Once again, that 's completely false...
Mandates, and having to obtain insurance, only go into effect in 2013-2014. Penalties for not obtaining mandated coverage, if you're not exempt (see my post above) are phased in over a period of years, and only hit the 2% surtax rate in 2016.
