it was played on Tim Russert this am.

What he said was: The secretaries of state and defense believe the war is lost.

He didn't say he believed it was lost. Or at least not in the clip shown.

Did I miss something or is this a sound bite problem?

1. Don't you believe the "war" is lost?
The Iraq Study Group (remember them?) concluded that the 'war' could not be won. Hmmm... can not be won.... hmmmm.

Why do we fall into the trap of being defensive about speaking the truth?

Yes, the fraudulent war to save us from IRaqi WMD was lost: there weren't any.

Yes the fraudulent war to break the 'terror nexus between al kader and Iraq' was lost: there wasn't one when we started the war, now there is one.

Yes, the fraudulent war to impose american style democracy on Iraq was lost: that mission didn't have a prayer in hell of succeeding.

Yes, the fraudulent mission to build up the Iraqi Army has failed: we have admitted that we are not even trying this anymore.

Yes, the escalation intended to end the civil war has failed.

Which part of 'we lost this stupid fraudulent misguided bullshit corrupt war' are we still in denial about?

2. yes, I do believe the war is lost but that's not what Reid said but it is what he is being
criticized for saying.

My point is just they are putting words in his mouth.

3. And my point is that we need to stop being defensive.
The war is lost. It doesn't matter if Reid said this or not, it is the damn unpleasant truth.

4. what does matter is that it is yet another
egregious distortion of truth by the RW spinmeisters to mount a personal attack, in which the media are once again enthusiastic participants. We have to call BULLSHIT each and every time. There are still plenty of sheeple drinking whatever turd-laced kool-aid is distributed, and at some point they will "get it." Every example is important.
