1. The party of truth, and service to his country and it's citizens.
Too bad so many of the others are just in it for the power and money. No, not their salaries but the money they can make after they leave office.

3. there are several parties that identify themselves as "socialist".
I don't recall him ever specifying which one he's a member (if he actually belongs to one). But my own guess would be the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA): http://www.dsausa.org/dsa.html Here's the Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Socialists_of_America

6. What he always says on the Hartmann show is that he's a Democratic Socialist.
I honestly don't know if there is a Party like that or not.

8. And that tells you what the problem with third parties is
If there actually was one that took electoral politics seriously, he'd probably be its titular head. Since there isn't, he has to be an Independent.

9. He probably meant the Democratic Socialists of Amerivca, which I had referred to in the above.
But the spoken word wouldn't differentiate between small "d", or capital "D". Small "d" would be just a descriptive adjective of "socialist" principles. The direct opposite would be (so-called!) "democratic centralism" --- aka: "Leninism", which would mean what is popularly termed "Communism" (with a capital "C"). That would also include parties that identified themselves themselves as "Trotskyist". It may or not be relevant to this discussion, but a significant number of Trotskyists later became ideologues of the Neo-Con movement.

10. No, no, no. He's a Vermont Progressive Party member, but
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 04:09 AM by clear eye
ran unaffiliated (as an independent), as per a deal w/ the Democratic Party not to run someone against him.

17. Vermont Progressive Party
"While the party has traditionally focused on state races, in 2000 it nominated Ralph Nader for president and Winona LaDuke for vice-president." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont_Progressive_Party

But it's understood by all, including Bernie himself, that hes a "democratic socialist" (small "d" & small "s")

4. Technically, he doesn't belong to a formal political party.
He considers himself a Democratic Socialist, but is listed as an Independent.

13. Odd, that the Senator that (I believe) fights the most consistently
for the people belongs to neither major party. There is a message barely hidden in there somewhere.
