China businesswoman gets death sentence for fraud
Source: AP

BEIJING — A Chinese businesswoman was sentenced to death Friday for cheating investors out of $56 million — the latest case in the country's struggle against widespread corruption.

The 28-year-old Wu Ying started out a decade ago with a single beauty salon but eventually built up a holding group, Bense Holdings, that was known around the country, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

The report said Wu collected the $56 million from investors over two years and was arrested in 2007.

Video posted online of her sentencing had the petite, ponytailed Wu showing little emotion as she was led into the courtroom.

4. I am not for the death penalty...
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 05:17 PM by winyanstaz
But I AM for throwing the crooks in jail.
At least in China they still follow the law and prosecute the criminals..we don't even do that..unless they are poor criminals of course. Then we throw the book at them.

6. Good for China!!!
Death penalty for corporate white collar supercriminals! Economic terrorists are every bit as dangerous as the worst Al Qaeda henchman.

9. Fraudsters there get huge amounts of money too. That's why they take the risks.
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 06:14 PM by LeftishBrit
The frequency of fraud and corruption scandals in China shows that the death penalty does not deter. The certainty of being caught is a much better deterrent against crime than the savagery of punishment - and most fraudsters don't get caught.

8. The ruling party is sending a strong message to the new capitalists.
That is, Russia-like economic crimes will not be permitted in China. No oligarchy will be allowed for form and consolidate, let alone wield political influence. "Patriotic capitalists" will be supported, and are those who follow the relevant laws and do not oppose the political initiatives of the government.

11. We should bring that here
One of my biggest reasons that I otherwise want to abolish the "Death Penalty" is that it is unfair, both by race but also by class. There needs to be a "Death Sentence" the "Rich Elite" fear also. They do the most damage to society, but they get away with it because most of what they do that harms us is legal, and when they break the laws, they face essentially a different system of justice.

What it should be is that "A financial Crime of $3 million is a captial offense for each and every iteration" the figure is to be taken and adjusted by Census. If all Americans were "Equal" we'd produce $3 million in one lifetime.

Well, financial fraud, though it does move people to murderous desperation and to suicide, it isn't known for killing people. Yet, at the same time, it hurts society far more than the worst serial killers. We are taken from in one increased "Fee" after another as the elites shuffle around their deck of jokers and we all lose because the game is controlled by them. When they steal, cheat, etc. that amount, they create a "Statistical Death", no body usually, but in a way a little bit more has been taken from each and every one of us.

So, on such a crime, they should face RICO seizure of assets and then face capital charges.

A Chinese tycoon once worth more than US$360 million has been executed by lethal injection for having a man who tried to blackmail him killed, a court statement and news reports said Saturday.

Yuan Baojing and two accomplices were put to death by lethal injection Friday after a court in China's northeastern Liaoning province upheld a death sentence handed down last year, said a notice on the official Web site of China's courts.
