Poll question: How Much do You Despise the US Insurance Industry?
White House Refutes Insurance Industry Analysis On Health Insurance Reform
Source: by Linda Douglass, The White House Posted on: 15th December 2009

For months, the insurance industry has been involved in study after study that purports to “analyze” health insurance reform (see here, here, here and here).

For all their efforts, they have succeeded in proving one thing: If you selectively use some facts while ignoring others, you can get an “analysis” that reaches your predetermined conclusions.

Today’s skewed study comes from the Lewin Group, owned by a subsidiary of the largest insurance carrier in the United States.

In addition to cherry-picking provisions to analyze, the Lewin Group uses an innovative new technique: analyzing legislation with “assumptions” that blatantly contradict what actually appears in either the House or Senate bills.

Among the many points this study conveniently ignores or deliberately misstates:

Personally, I'd like to see the demise of for-profit health care. It's just one of the things that should never be corrupted by profit motive.

How many else here feel similarly?

I do have my reasons for wanting to know.

gees out of 'em, restore the right to bring legal action against them (NO more binding arbitration clauses w/no right to sue),

3. I am the sister of an insurance agent. I despise the companies for not paying them enough and
downsizing them out of jobs, along with all the other crap they pull.

4. You know what Shakespeare said about Lawyers?
Change that to insurance executives and I think it would be a grand idea.

That is what I think of the insurance industry.

5. Back when most of them were mutual companies, they were fine.
When they became for-profit companies, they became evil (as all for-profit enterprises do when they get big and lack adequate regulation).

14. Yep.
It's an evil of the market. As soon as a company goes public, they must turn a profit every quarter. Such companies do not belong in the health, justice, or war sectors.

7. It's not that I don't like them. They just need to go away. They can insure other things.
Just not health. Profit seeking MIDDLEMEN are an influence that needs to be kept mostly out of public health. It's one thing for people who actually DO something to advance and defend health to be paid a profit for their efforts. But insurance companies do nothing at all. What they do is pool other people's money. The govt can do that for us FAR MORE EFFICIENTLY. You don't have to look to Canada or Britain or France for the conclusive example - just look at the difference between private insurance overhead versus Medicare. Case closed.

10. I don't need to see the demise of the for-profit insurance industry.
I just want to see it shrunk down small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Let them issue supplemental policies, and leave healthcare to people who are interested in helping people.
