Florida jobless rate hits 11.5 percent
Florida’s unemployment rate rose to 11.5 percent in November, up two-tenths of a point from October’s revised rate of 11.3 percent.

The rate represents about 1.05 million jobless out of a labor force of 9.2 million. The statewide average is at its highest rate since May 1975 and is about 1.5 percentage points higher than the national rate.

The statewide average has risen by 4.3 points since November 2008.

In Metro Orlando, November’s rate climbed to 11.8 percent, up three-tenths of a point from October.

Despite signs that the national recession is over — at least in a technical sense — employers remain hesitant to fill jobs they eliminated in the last two years or so. Florida, particularly hard hit by the downturn in home construction, is expected to recover more slowly than many states.

Analysts say the jobless rate will likely increase slowly through the early part of 2010.

1. it's pretty bad here in Jacksonville too
but the city's got 150 thousand bucks for a pep rally before the Jaguars game last night in attempt to keep the team in town next year and stave off a move to LA.

3. Keeping The Jaguars Is In The Best Interest Of Jacksonville
Jacksonville might be one one of the smallest markets in the NFL though. I remember when they came with so much fanfare.

10. Jaguars yes, Weavers NO.
At least we're just outside the city and don't have to keep funding the Weavers' cash cow arrangement they have with Jax.

8. Peyton is a douche...
he has no problem cutting programs for seniors and American vets but doesn't bat an eye to throw more money at the infallible Weavers.

2. We beat you.
SC has a 12.3 % rate. It's a quick trip going down. This is one race I didn't even want to enter.

7. That's where I live
It's very sad here. I live in St Lucie, but I work in Palm Beach. There are no jobs in St Lucie County.

6. The A/C company I work for once had over 50 guys working in the field ...
on new construction projects. Today we only have around 10 and we can't keep them busy for 40 hours a week.
