A president's chief of staff is supposed to be a tough, no nonsense type of guy, so I nominate...
Howard Dean to replace Raum. Howard can be pragmatic (after all as Gov of VT he wasn't as liberal as his reputation is today). His work for the DNC proves he knows how to win elections. And he can be a president's 'sum bitch' as LBJ used to call a Chief of Staff. He is tough and would tell how it is to congressmen and senators.

Now if I could just convince President Obama to hire Dr. Dean :(

3. Howard is not offensive to the uber-wealthy because he's too liberal...
He isn't, but because he's not owned and that terrifies them.
