i propose that the dlc is not a cancer in the democratic party
it would be great if the progressive agenda could be implemented across the country. we would have a clean environment, a peaceful country, quality health care, and everyone making a fair wage. but this cannot happen.

the country as a whole is afraid of wholesale change that would be needed for this to happen. and what the dlc does is pull people like obama more to the right center than the left as he was when he was a state senator or a community orgainizer.

we get him elected and yes, it would be great if he would throw us more bones than he does, but lets face it, he has done more for the nation than the idiot we had in there before.

1. The Senate is and always will be our problem.
Obama won 28 states in 2008. Even if we got a rock solid, non-DLC Senator from each and every one of those states, that's only 56. And the feasibility of that in states like Indiana, Florida, or North Carolina is virtually nil.

Like it or not, the DLC fills in the blanks to make it possible for us to even have these kinds of discussions. Instead of discussing why we can't break through on health care reform, we'd instead be talking about how we need to filibuster what the Republicans would be offering or discussing whether or not we have the votes to sustain an Obama veto. That's the cold, hard truth of it. The very framework of the Senate works against us.

2. More like osteoporosis,
slowly dissolving and eating away at our basic 'skeletal' structure until we finally collapse....

3. I left something in the rest room that has done more for the nation than GWB.
I don't think that should be our benchmark.

You may have a point, but I have to think Bush would not have let an item of his agenda just die in the Senate without threatening, ostracizing, blackmailing or watching as airplane "accidents" took out everyone in his way.

Oh yeah and: DLC?!?!?!? THEY'RE CORPROFASCIST NAZIS!!! HOW CAN YOU DEFEND THEM!!! OH SHIT MY HEAD EXPLODED!!! A-A-A-A-A-A-A-GH!!!!!!!
:sarcasm:

5. you are right about bush
but it didn't happen because the repubs were a bunch of lemmings who blindly followed their leaders over the cliff.

democrats are basically a bunch of diverse individuals who "generally" think for themselves. yes we have the corporate whores among us, but generally we have brains and use them.

4. Accept things that are wrong headed is what we have done over
and over. That is why our country is in decline.

We permitted if not encouraged the right wing of the Democratic
to put in kinder and gentler RW Policies. Two examples.
Repeal of Glass-Steagall and Nafta. These two things
had direct harmful effects leading ro the Meltdown of
Financial Industry and the horrific job losses due to
Globalization Crisis.

No one seems to want to admit the Liberals have been
correct on every policy for this country over many
decades. We were forced to placate the RW of our
Party. Following the Republican Party ideology is
just digging the hole deeper. We just may dig a double
dip recession.

Is it better having a Democratic President, you bet.
Because we like our president and want him to succeed,
we must point out when we think he may be veering in
the wrong direction with policy.

All of our great Presidents, admitted mistakes and made
corrections. This is the height of intelligence. Going
with certitude in the wrong direction based of fear
of not winning is not very intelligent.

8. bear with me for a moment..
i work with some older people who need a process to be a,b,c,d. if b happens before a they become confused and upset.

gwb's "no child left behind" imho taught this same process in schools. don't let anyone think anymore .

anyway, this is what is hampering the liberal agenda. most of our country does not think anymore. we like simple and lets face it sometimes the liberal agenda requires one to think things through. it requires one to change ones mind when something better comes along or more data is available.

6. The DLC may not be a cancer on the Democratic Party. It may simply BE the Democratic Party.
If so, I need to find a new party. This one doesn't work any more.

7. Ask yourself why you are content with that
As a country we should be asking why we are content to send people to DC year after year who do nothing to improve our lives and everything to improve their own.
