Almost 40% Of Americans Don’t Believe In Evolution!
August 21, 2006 | Religion, Weird | 12:48 am | |
IT’S A FAIRLY MAD STATISTIC. To be honest, I’d known for sometime that the Religious right and the political machine in the US had long had interests in fostering the idea that “Gawd” is on their side and that the scientists were all talking crap when it came to evolution, but I didn’t expect the statistics to prove so many Americans were actually falling for this mantra.
According to recently published research over at The New Scientist, a staggering 39% of Americans actually think evolution is rubbish. They don’t believe in natural selection; they don’t accept that we (humans) share 99% of our DNA with Chimps and they sure as hell don’t accept that we evolved from the slime to where we are now.

America Anesthetized
By Alex Sabbeth
March 5, 2006
Shockingly, 85 percent of the troops questioned believe they are fighting in Iraq “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks” – one of the key Iraq War myths built by Bush’s frequent juxtaposition of references to Osama bin-Laden and Saddam Hussein. This subliminal message has stuck with the vast majority of U.S. troops even though Bush eventually acknowledged publicly that there is no evidence linking Saddam to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

The poll also found that 77 percent think that a major reason for the war was “to stop Saddam from protecting al-Qaeda in Iraq” – another myth nurtured by the Bush administration even though Hussein’s secular government was a bitter enemy of al-Qaeda’s Islamic fundamentalists.

UN: Disastrous Climate Change Coming
United Nations, April 5 (Prensa Latina) UN experts consider that the change in climate could lead to a series of natural disasters that would chiefly affect developing nations.
Among the effects of the rise in temperature would be more famine in Africa, frequent heat waves, damage to coral reefs, and more than a foot and a half rise in sea level, with terrible consequences for countries like Bangladesh and island nations.

CSIS Says We're Fucked In Iraq
It's not actually the title of the report, but "We're Fucked" would work pretty well. The frontpage headline is pretty funny, though: "Iraqis Optimistic Despite Failure in Security, Services, Economic Opportunity." It's like the Bush campaign's dream of a "more hopeful" though not actually better America or a world where terrorism, though more common and more deadly, is "less acceptable." Except if you read the report, Iraqis, while optimistic, are actually less optimistic than they used to be. And there's all this other stuff in there about how we're fucked. The good news is that we've painted a lot of new schools since the summer of 2003. The bad news is that according to every single indicator CSIS used, things are getting worse in Iraq.
Now, obviously, you can't believe a word of this because CSIS is stocked by rabid, Bush-hating partisans. The evidence? Why look how critical they are of his policies.

Best Coffee: Starbucks
Half of the chains success on campus - and most likely elsewhere - is due to its massive amount of customization; at more than 38 million possibilities for espresso-based drinks alone...
The Starbucks selection doesn't end with mere liquid libations; a fully stocked bakery case holds more than 20 sweet (and not-so-sweet) goods from classic crumb cake to immensely sugary cupcakes. If you're on the go, a refrigerator case directly below the baked goods holds Jones Soda, San Pellegrino and even cans of Starbucks's own iced coffee.
