Yes, I trust him on healthcare issues. Yes, I think he would support something he thought would help rather than hurt. Yes, I think he wanted desperately to support this legislation and only spoke out because he thinks it's worse than nothing.

11. Way before this last election it came to me that what we needed in this country in the way of health
care reform was a two tiered system.

One for those who wanted to pay insurance companies like they are doing now and one for those who don't. That idea seemed to me to satisfy everyone. It wasn't 100% single payer so the anti government gang could opt out of government provided health care if they wanted.

The rest of us could go someplace other than to the insurance companies. We could have single payer system for those of us who wanted it.

I did not call it a public option but that is the name that was put on it. Dr Dean was saying the same thing a long time ago. He spoke for me then and now.

How anyone can accept the idea that the government should mandate that you spend money for something that isn't in your best interest is way beyond my thinking ability. And to say that forcing somebody to buy insurance is providing insurance coverage is like saying a thief is providing you the opportunity to donate to him!

40. He has an op ed in the WP about it.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/16/AR2009121601906.html

Last two paragraphs:

"In Washington, when major bills near final passage, an inside-the-Beltway mentality takes hold. Any bill becomes a victory. Clear thinking is thrown out the window for political calculus. In the heat of battle, decisions are being made that set an irreversible course for how future health reform is done. The result is legislation that has been crafted to get votes, not to reform health care.

I have worked for health-care reform all my political life. In my home state of Vermont we have accomplished universal health care for children under 18 and real insurance reform -- which not only bans discrimination against preexisting conditions but also prevents insurers from charging outrageous sums for policies as a way of keeping out high-risk people. I know health reform when I see it, and there isn't much left in the Senate bill. I reluctantly conclude that, as it stands, this bill would do more harm than good to the future of America."

41. the funny thing is watching CNBC today
there were republicans laughing at the prospect of Dean speaking for them as well... If he can help kill the bill, republicans will likely gain significant ground next November so you'd keep an existing system still w/ pre-existing, lifetime caps, 48+million w/o coverage, and no assistance for those who can't afford coverage... all because whining dems didn't get everything they wanted.

181. Democrats are responsible for the possibility of a Republican
takeover in 2010. I will never forgive them for that. Or Obama as he is just as responsible, perhaps more so. Thanks for reminding me of one more disaster the Dems we all worked so hard for, are responsible for.

You need to give up blaming the people for this.

They betrayed the people who voted for them. And finally the people have had enough. Did they really think there was no limit to how much they could disrespect the people?

THEY, spineless, bought-and-paid-for Democrats are responsible if they allow a Republican takeover in 2010. THEY could stop that, by getting some spine, by ditching their corporate masters and remembering who sent them to DC. The country is in their hands.

So far, they seem bound and determined to hand it over to Republicans. We'll see, maybe the outrage they are witnessing now will finally get through to them. But there was never a chance of getting their attention by continuing to reward them for contant betrayals of those who elected them.

85. This bill stinks to high heaven. It needs to die an unglamorous death. I also believe that at this
point, being striped of anything that comes close to honestly helping the average American citizen, that it is indeed a corporate give away program at the expense of crinimalizing and victimizing the people of this country who can least affort it.

It's a horrible bill, and I believe that when it comes right down to it, these people who are supporting it don't have our best interests at heart.

94. Howard speaks me and for
my husband, and my family & friends. My telephone has been ringing off the hook, since KO's special commentary tonight. Boy are people pissed! I can't thank Dr Dean enough for speaking out. Democrat or not....when something is wrong, you say it, not follow like a bunch of sheep. A lot of us are angry too, about the White House going after Dean and coddling Lieberman. Sickening. And that Mary Landrieu on "Hardball", tonite going after Dean. Remember how Anderson Cooper went after her, because she was thanking bush for all the "help" he was giving Louisiana during Katrina? Cooper flipped the f*** out:

Katrina: Anderson Cooper Berates Senator Landrieu; "There Was A Body On The Streets...Being Eaten By Rats,"

"Last night, CNN's Anderson Cooper abandoned the old persona to throttle Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., in a live interview. (See the video or read the transcript "Does the federal government bear responsibility for what is happening now? Should they apologize for what is happening now?" Cooper opened."

"As if campaigning before the local Democratic Ladies' Club lunch, Landrieu sing-songed back, "Anderson, there will be plenty of time to discuss all of those issues, about why, and how, and what, and if." She went on to thank President Bush. Her condescending filibuster continued: "Anderson, tonight, I don't know if you've heard—maybe you all have announced it—but Congress is going to an unprecedented session to pass a $10 billion supplemental bill tonight to keep FEMA and the Red Cross up and operating."

"Cooper suspended the traditional TV rules of decorum and, approaching tears of fury, said:

"Excuse me, Senator, I'm sorry for interrupting. I haven't heard that, because, for the last four days, I've been seeing dead bodies in the streets here in Mississippi. And to listen to politicians thanking each other and complimenting each other, you know, I got to tell you, there are a lot of people here who are very upset, and very angry, and very frustrated."

"And when they hear politicians slap—you know, thanking one another, it just, you know, it kind of cuts them the wrong way right now, because literally there was a body on the streets of this town yesterday being eaten by rats because this woman had been laying in the street for 48 hours. And there's not enough facilities to take her up. " http://www.slate.com/id/2125581

We all know how bush "helped" the victims of Katrina. And it was her buddy Joe Lieberman that stopped further investigations into what wrong during Katrina...God Forbid the bush administration would be blamed. She makes me sick, she's such a phoney.

Thank you Dr Dean, I wish more Democrats were like you.

178. My Progressive Movement!
Yes. I support Doctor Dean and his call to Kill the Senate Health care Reform Bill. Should have been killed the day President Obama took universal coverage off the table, but Howard Dean is right--there are some good things, but way too many more bad "gifts" for the Health care Industrial Complex. Kill it!

BTW, this is my first posting after joining your underground. I'm looking forward to new focus on the Progressive movement. Personally, my opinion, I'm sick of this two-party system and ready to re-register as an Independent. I'm still hopeful that the Progressive Movement can take over the Democratic Party, but our government in Washington, DC is corrupted. As soon as we send a to Washington, he gets corrupted by special interest groups and corporate lobbyists. It must be something in the water there, or corporate personhood...

Rampant rantings...

Phuck the repukes and the conservative Dems. Kill that bill!

Then, revoke anti-trust exemption for health insurance. Then start work on a new healthcare reform policy/bill.

194. Very well said.
Dean has been one of the loudest voices calling for HCR. As you say, if this bill were a net positive, even a tiny one, he'd get behind it.
