the "Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Act"
The bright lights in the Georgia leg want to give vouchers to students with special needs. Superb political move, as many arguments against vouchers (at least from me) center around what happens to special ed kids. But get this - nestled about halfway down in the bill is this gem:

Acceptance of a scholarship shall have the same effect as a parental refusal to consent to services pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 20 U.S.C.A. Section 1400, et seq.

In other words, if you want the money, you have to sign away your rights and those of your child under the very law that governs public special education. We'll give your kid a voucher, but we're going to make sure that the private school in which you enroll her (assuming you have the money to make up the difference between the voucher and tuition) doesn't have to do anything to address her disability.

Please, someone tell me why we aren't hitting the GOP over the head with education on an hourly basis. Please.
