4. Damn.
Hope the peeps in the neighborhood are okay. We had a plane go down last year (not a Blue Angel) at the local airshow and it took out a couple of houses, but no people.

7. And that is exactly why I hate airshows.
I hope the neighborhood wasn't too badly damaged. Could the pilot have survived that?

8. I seriously doubt it.
My assumption would be that since the plane was heading to a neighborhood, the pilot probably stayed with the plane in an attempt to crash in such a way that limited other lives being lost.

5. I know a lot of those guys.
We have a party for them at my house every year during Fleet Week on SF Bay.

This is just awful.

There are reports that a Blue Angels precision flight team member has crashed a plane during a show in South Carolina.

CNN reported that at least one plane crashed into a Beaufort, S.C., neighborhood. Several homes were reported to be on fire, according to CNN.

A man who said he was a witness told CNN that he was watching the show and there were six planes, then one vanished before he saw a black plume of smoke. He said he had watched the show for about 30 minutes before the crash.

Another witness, Gerald Popp, said he also saw a plane go down. He said there were thousands of people in attendance at the show.

The jets were flying out of Beaufort Marine Corps A.S., which is a military town. The Blue Angels were scheduled to fly in 66 air shows in 2007, according to CNN.

11. I hate air shows!
We have them here in the Rogue Valley in So Oregon a few times a year. Right now I live far from the airport (20 miles) and out of the flight paths.

When I lived in Seattle during the 1962 World's Fair, there was a fly-over and one plane crashed and killed a couple in their home.

These are not infrequent occurrences.

13. A friend of mine served the Blue Angel pilots at a bar in Grand Junction last year

She said they all drank like fish until 3:00 am and had to fly the next day. Late night drinking and flying a plane at the speed of sound 30 feet from the ground seven hours later probably don't mix.

15. My brother absolutely won't drink within 24 hours of flying.
It is his golden rule. He's a former Navy pilot who now flies a private jet for a company. He is well aware that he has to be at the top of his game everytime he goes in that cockpit.

And he is not even flying close to the speed of sound. :)

14. The Blue Angels are scheduled to be in my city next month.
The Deke Slayton airshow. They fly very low and over my house since I live only 2 miles from the airport. I can watch much of the show by walking down a block to the river--quieter too, but there is still a lot of noise. But I realize that over the years I could be killed in a plane crash in my own living room on any given day.
