1. That reminds me of a REALLY pathetic young woman who worked with my wife.
She teaches kindergarten in a center that also provides daycare and most of the workers are fairly young women (18-20). She was having a conversation with another coworker when a young woman came into the room and exclaimed, "THERE'S my water bottle. I was afraid someone had taken it!" My wife looked over and there was a half-empty bottle of water on the counter. The other coworker asked, "Why would anyone want the last half of your water bottle?" The young lady looked indignant and snipped, "Well, it IS Dasani!!!"

Dasani is municipal tap water.

5. Curiously, it is probably the safest bottled water.
Municipal tap water has already passed safety standards (such as they are, and yes I'm aware of the recent report on contaminants). Spring water simply has to come from a spring to be called that. The safety of the water is questionable. That spring can be fed by a water table contaminated with farm or factory run-off. Distilled water is safe, but I've never seen that in anything less than a gallon jug.

I'm lucky where I am. The tap water is great just like it is. In places I've lived where it is questionable, a Brita filter (or similar) usually takes care of it. One PROFOUND exception is Newark, DE where my sister-in-law lives. Even with a faucet filtration system, the water smells like photographic chemicals. I can't drink the stuff. It may meet safety standards, but it doesn't pass the nose test.

9. Why would you want to pay for the same quality of water (or worse) that you can get out of your tap?

3. Another interesting fact: "Evian" is "naive" spelled backwards.
I suspect that's how they chose the name.

8. We have a well.
So far we have not been required to hook up to municipal water lines which is fine by me. DH and I use aluminum water bottles to take our water with us when we leave the house.
