I'm not as much upset about Tiger Woods cheating as I am about his car being totalled.

For fuck sakes, you're going to tell me that a 70k automobile can be totaled from hitting a fire hydrant going 30 miles per hour?

WTF?

1. Maybe there was damage other than from the wreck. Maybe the interior was covered in pecker tracks.

2. Not I. One less Escalade is one less Escalade.
That is, except that Cadillac is going to fix it and sell it, sadly.

9. Cadillac won't fix it; insurance co. will sell it at auction
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 10:05 PM by 704wipes
If it is totaled out by insurance company, it becomes THEIR property.
They will sell it at auction, at worst to someone who will fix it, but at best they will find an off-auction buyer for it, who will fix it up, quite nicely, so you never could tell other than by the SALVAGE TITLE.

I suppose Cadillac could buy it from the insurance company and fix it if they wanted to mess around with wrecked stuff.

I suppose for this one their could be some monetary interest in it as the Philandering Tiger's Escalade. But he would probably sue if his name is left attached to it in anyway as to keep its' value higher.

12. I read earlier that it was GM's car and that they were going to fix it
and then auction/fleet it. I could be wrong, just going by that blip of info.

after taking out the window, the front and rear quarter panels, both doors and all of tiger's teeth, the pitching wedge is intact.

10. Hell yeah.
Typical classist attitude, isn't it? People grieve for the aritocratic luxury machine while ignoring the death of the blue collar hydrant.

Usually fire hydrants travel much more slowly. When a fire hydrant is going thirty miles per hour, the situation is unusual and drivers don't have the necessary experience to handle the situation effectively.

23. totaled doesn't mean undrivable
just means that the insurance company feels it costs more to repair than payoff. I totaled my 1972 Maverick a week after I got it years ago. I drove it for another two years. However, the insurance company had totaled the car.

17. A car being totalled doesn't mean it can't be fixed
It's totalled when the insurance company's estimate for fixing it is more or even equal to it's blue book value (which is significantly less than it's purchase price even when the car is basically new). Whether or not the car can be fixed has nothing to do with it. You still have the choice of fixing the car as long as you accept that the only money the insurance company will put into fixing it will be the amount the damage estimate is and any funds needed beyond that would be your own responsibility. And you may have to argue with the insurance company about that depending on how close the damage estimate amount is to the book value... the insurance company isn't going to pay more than the book value in any case.

20. Tiger should buy it from the insurance company...
and then offer it on e-bay.

These 70K cookie cutter luxury cars are not what they used to be.

In any case, for what he spends on ladies, he can buy a new car and not miss the pocket change it would cost.
