Bill would give nursing moms protection
Bill would give nursing moms protection

LANSING, Mich., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Nursing mothers in Michigan would be protected from discrimination by the state's civil rights act under a bill in the legislature.

The bill passed the House Judiciary Committee and could go to a vote in the full House of Representatives this week, the Detroit Free Press reported.

"At its heart, it is sex discrimination to not allow women to do something that is natural to them in a place they have a right to be," said Rep. Rebekah Warren, D-Ann Arbor, who introduced the bill.

If nursing were a formal civil right, nursing moms could take complaints of discrimination to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, and under certain circumstances, file lawsuits for alleged legal violations.

1. Good to hear. Can you imagine the public thinking a mother nursing her
child is indicient behavior?

2. Good.
Our society's hang-ups about breasts are pathetic.

5. I hope this passes. It's not like mothers are walking around with their
breasts just hanging out. I have yet to see one woman who did not act as discretely as possible while breastfeeding in public. Yet some people still insist it's indecent?!?!
