Kansas lawmaker meets with NAACP about 'RedNeck Rap' video
TOPEKA | A state lawmaker says he is sorry his "RedNeck Rap" offended some people.

But Rep. Bill Otto told members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Saturday that he stands by the video criticizing President Barack Obama.

In what he titled "RedNeck Rap," Otto criticizes the nation's first black president while wearing a cap that calls opossum "the other dark meat." At the end, Otto repeats the slogan and says, "A little greasy, but hey."

The Republican from the east-central Kansas town of Leroy said Saturday he had "absolutely no thought of anything racial in it."

Otto has replaced the video with an altered version that attempts to explain his stance and states he isn't racist.

But Otto says he won't remove the video entirely.

4. This actually might cause him trouble in Kansas.
Despite that state's conservatism, racism doesn't play well there.

5. No it does not play well here
Hopefully thanks to this silly youtube video, Bill Otto will soon be a former state representative.

3. Standard issue non-apology apology
"I'm sorry if you were offended." Absolutely meaningless babble.

8. I grew up in that county.
Don't know him, but he's an idiot. The only decent employer there is the Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant, and it did go union awhile back. Everything else... Rural decay. Just another Republican, who doesn't even realize what policies are actually good for his constituents.

9. Great news about the union
I went to college in Emporia while they were building that plant. I had quite a few friends who worked there.

Now surely the Democrats can find a candidate to run against Otto. He is a frootloop.

10. The problem is...
That a lot of the young people move away, and you're left with an aging and less educated population of voters. My Dad (use to vote republican all the time) sold his farm and moved to Burlington, and I asked him if people around there still think they are voting for republicans like Eisenhower, and he said yes. They really do not know that republicans have been leading them nowhere, but into harder times. He said Bush changed a lot of minds there, but when Democrats continue with policies that are Republican Lite, the Democrats are conceding a lot of gains it made in the last election.

Emporia has gone downhill a lot too, from what it used to be. There just much of anything that pays very well in that whole area.

12. The state Dem party is working to build the party in that area
And you're right. Many of those voters think they are voting for good republicans like Eisenhower.

Emporia is just sad. Every time I am there a little bit more of the city has died.
