Defense Contractor Makes Up Wild Islamic Terrorism Fantasy; Right-Wingers Act Like it's 9/11 All Over Again

Posted by Joshua Holland, AlterNet at 11:34 AM on December 6, 2009.

Weird story.

True story. A right-winger who obviously reads too many of those really hard-core Islamophobic blogs emailed around a detailed account of how he had heroically thwarted a terrorist attack on a flight from Atlanta to Houston.

According to the story, which proliferated on conservative blogs and rose as high up the wingnut food chain as Glenn Beck's website, Ted Petruna was on the AirTrans flight waiting to taxi when he saw a bunch of "Muslims" acting suspiciously. They spoke to each other covertly on their cell phones from different locations within the plane. In Arabic, of course. They refused the crew's orders to turn off the phones; instead, they started watching pornographic films (this is what religious fundamentalists tend to do before launching suicide attacks, according to Petruna). When the group stood up and started walking towards the flight deck, Petruna and a brave fellow Texan who had also noted the suspicious doings of the men took action. They manhandled the outclassed young Muslims into compliance and secured them until Air Marshals boarded the plane and took the group into custody.

Then, shockingly, the airline -- no doubt entirely staffed by PC liberals -- tried to allow the men to board again and resume their journey. But Petruna and a bunch of other fine upstanding Americans had had enough. They threatened airline personnel with violence if they weren't re-booked on other flights. The airline relented, and the flight was canceled.

All of this was of course covered up, as usual, by the terror-loving liberal media. .............(more)

1. Mock them. Mock them mercilessly. Here's my reponse....

My post on Schlussel's site:

If this were a ‘dry run’, these would have been the worst terrorists ever.

“OK guys, we’re about to go on a dry run for the next attack against the Great Satan. Let’s brainstorm a bit on how to best pull this off and make a successful attack next month.”
“Let’s dress in full regalia!”
“Yeah, then let’s make spectacles of ourselves dancing in the aisles!”
“Can I watch porn?”
“Why not? It will bring even more attention to you!”
“What about screaming in Arabic?”
“Brilliant!”
“Can I spout some stereotypical phrase from a nineteenth century pulp novel?”
“Sure, how about ‘Infidel dog’?”
“But what if this gets us thrown off the plane?”
“They’ll let us back on, no sweat.”
“But what if our attack is thwarted by a brave American who isn’t even on the plane and his imaginary Texas buddy?”
“That’s just a chance we have to take.”

Seriously, I'm having the most success (read: stunned silence) when I just mock whatever RW bullshit is being thrown at me. I have a RW foamer co-worker who threw the birther stuff at me, and most recently the AirTran gem, and I reponded with the above. Really: stunned silence was his only reply.

Mockery; I recommend it.

2. On the Freeper discussion of this...
...it took 88 hateful posts before someone realized it was a hoax. Is this a new record?

3. Why do republicon homelanders live in a world of FEAR & FAIL?
They should abandon their Big Daddy Homelander fantasy, and try being democratic participants in the USA -- the "land of the free and the home of the BRAVE."

Sheesh. No wonder so many of the republicon 'leaders' are chickenhawks. They freaking flock together.

5. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has a story about this
The funny thing is, the story says the teabaggers were bombarding the Atlanta Journal Constitution with emails about how they and the "liberal mainstream media" were covering up the heroic story of how a teabagger stopped a terrorist attack. So the AJC investigated and found out the lying teabagger, Petruna, wasn't even on the flight.

6. We could consider it 911 again if we had a million plus dead at
the hands of a foreign occupier. We don't and it ain't.

7. My favorite part
When the flight attendant asked one of the men to stop using their cellphone, the man supposedly said (and I quote),

Shut up, infidel dog!

.

I tell you, these guys just parody themselves.
