Senator Roger Wicker ... how do you sleep at night?
:rant:
<rant>

Just saw him lie his way through C-SPAN this morning blaming the banking meltdown on affordable loans through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and saying that the Democrats were going to destroy Medicare when he knows perfectly well that it was his buddy (Republican buddy) Phil Graham and Graham's wife who arranged to destroy the Glass Steagall act (Graham Leach Bliley Act) and allow banks to get into the business of repackaging bad loans as "investments" that caused the banking crisis and that the Republicans under Bush modified Medicare so that there were insurance company intermediates involved in the Medicare "Plus" program that are making huge profits and that all that money actually WILL be saved by eliminating these leeches ..uh I mean "middle men".

Wicker then tried to say that we had to pay for the surge in Afghanistan and how dare we be spending all this money on health care giveaways. Never once did he talk about:

a) Ending the war in Iraq and/or Afghanistan thereby saving $150 billion a year that could pay for healthcare for all and then some.

b) How the Bush tax cuts for the rich put us in this financial hole in the first place when we had been in surplus territory under Clinton.

c) How Bush is the first President ever to cut taxes during a time of war.

d) a war tax to pay for the war.

Shame on your Roger. I guess it's easier to sleep at night without that pesky conscience keeping you up.

This DU rant is unfortunately in lieu of actually being able to tell him off on the phone on the air - I never could get through because the lines were swamped.
