Waxman Letter Sheds More Details: It Was ‘Related To WMD’
Waxman Letter Sheds More Details About White House-MZM Contract: It Was ‘Related To WMD’
On December 5, 2005, the LA Times reported that the White House awarded the defense firm MZM with a contract “to provide office furniture and computers for Vice President Cheney.” But Josh Marshall reported last month that the contract was really for screening the president’s mail, “presumably for Anthrax and other similar biohazards.”

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) reports that the White House counsel’s office has been “unable to identify any contracts for furniture within the Vice President’s office” but that there may be “a different contract ‘related to WMD.’” From a Waxman letter addressed to White House Counsel Fred Fielding:

On April 17,2007, Mr. Flood contacted Committee staff by telephone to state that he did not yet have the requested documents or even a schedule by which some or all responsive documents would be provided. Instead, Mr. Flood stated that he had been unable to identify any contracts for furniture within the Vice President’s office, but that he had heard “rumors” about a different contract “related to WMD” that raised “certain sensibilities.” Mr. Flood requested one additional week to prepare a response to the Committee, to which Committee staff agreed.

Indeed, “certain sensibilities” have been raised. The White House awarded the one-month, $140,000 contract to an individual — MZM contractor Mitchell Wade — who never previously held a federal contract. Two weeks after he got paid, Wade used a cashier’s check for exactly that amount to buy a boat for now-imprisoned Rep. Duke Cunningham at a price that the congressman had pre-negotiated.

2. Now WHO Would Send Cheney Mail?
I would think just about everything could have gone straight into the circular file. It would be either junk mail or anthrax or letter bombs or solicitations from the RNC.

Nobody would write a postcard, or a chatty letter to the Big Dick. His accountant probably gets all the bills directly. Problem solved!

3. Really, it got an audible laugh from me. LOL! And I'm sitting here at my computer
with no one else around, except my cat, who thinks nothing at all of strange human behavior, just reports it all without comment to the Total Information Awareness center on Arcturas.

So they gave $140,000 of my tax money and yours to this no-account company in exchange for absolutely nothing, who turned the money into Duke Cunningham's lobbying boat.

Oh, and Mr. Wade sniffed around the Dickster's office for some WMDs and didn't find any. Really, ya gotta laugh...

4. Thank You - That One Had Slipped My Mind

The point, for those who didn't see the full explanation when this was first released, is that Duke Cunningham went and picked out a boat, then he negotiated a price for the boat. After that nothing happened for about a month as the wheels of progress ground on. Then out of nowhere it seems a contract was let to Wade by the Vice President's office. There is no evidence that any product or service was provided under the contract, which itself was of notably short duration - however - Wade was paid precisely the amount Duke Cunningham had negoiated for the boat and then within a very short time (what was it, 2 days?) Wade bought Duke the boat. Wade knew how much he needed to get to pay for the boat because Duke had already negotiated the price. The question is what was the connection between Cheney and Duke that made Cheney give the money - in precisely the right amount - to Wade (how's that for a hard trail to follow?) under the cover of a contract for which no work was ever done nor any product delivered, in order for Wade to buy Duke the boat?
