In court, Salahis agree to settle debt with watch

That infamous Salahi couple, the alleged White House gate-crashers, brought the media circus to Front Royal, Va., Friday morning. Michaele and Tareq Salahi showed up at the Warren County courthouse and Tareq left three hours later without his watch.

Back last December, a judge had ordered the couple to pay their onetime landscaper and his lawyer about $2,000. The Salahis never paid. So back they had to come to the courthouse, about seven miles from their home on the edge of town, compelled to answer questions under oath from the landscaper's lawyer about their finances...

On Friday, the Salahis offered a few different payment plans for the bill. What the parties settled on was this: Tareq Salahi was wearing a Patek Philippe Geneve watch. The parties agreed that the watch could be sold to generate the cash... Patek Philippe Geneve is an expensive brand known for its quality and history and prestige, but not in the same luxury category as a Rolex...

Michaele Salahi wore large sunglasses, and she walked a pace ahead of her husband as reporters shouted out questions. They responded to none. She tugged on his hand as they walked briskly down Main Street and took refuge inside a law office. Reporters quickly ran to the back parking lot, where the Salahis' Audi -- with temporary tags --was sitting. As reporters staked out the front and back entrances of the law office, a police officer came and ticketed the Audi for an expired inspection sticker.

They'd better make sure that watch is not fake!!!

6. I once represented a wealthy woman who wouldn't pay her landscaper.
He had a contract with her husband, the husband died, the landscaper kept coming, and my client claimed the contract was canceled after her husband died. But she never stopped the landscaper from cutting her lawn and pruning her bushes.

I even got aggravated with the nonsense. It came down to court, settlement offers were increasing by the hour as we waited. She wouldn't budge. She rhetorically asked me what she should do. I told her that the judge wouldn't believe her if she told him that she never saw the lawn being cut for more than a year. Elves was not a defense. I ended up telling to open her purse and whip out the canceled check for another landscaper if she hoped to prevail. We both knew there wasn't such a check.

She settled for nearly the full amount due.

3. "but not in the same luxury category as a Rolex"
Only in the sense that a Rolls Royce isn't in the same category as a Lexus.

4. I'm starting to have trouble believing these people AREN'T actors
and this whole stunt from the beginning is the spin-up to some Borat-style TV series or mockumentary... Even the greatest comedy writers with an unlimited budget couldn't create such a satirical trainwreck...

7. Bob Scheiffer on CBS this morning said
That they should be prosecuted for crashing the state dinner. He made the point that State Dinners are a very special way of representing the United States to the world. I got the impression that he felt their action mocked America to the world - made us a laughing stock. We certainly had enough of that during the doofus in chief years.
