SAN FRANCISCO -- Within hours of Pat Tillman's death, the Army went into information-lockdown mode, cutting off phone and Internet connections at a base in Afghanistan, posting guards on a wounded platoon mate, and ordering a sergeant to burn Tillman's uniform.

New investigative documents reviewed by The Associated Press describe how the military sealed off information about Tillman's death from all but a small ring of soldiers. Officers quietly passed their suspicion of friendly fire up the chain to the highest ranks of the military, but the truth did not reach Tillman's family for five weeks.

The clampdown, and the misinformation issued by the military, lie at the heart of a burgeoning congressional investigation.

"We want to find out how this happened," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House oversight committee, which has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday. "Was it the result of incompetence, miscommunication or a deliberate strategy?"

It is also a central issue as the Army weighs punishments against nine officers, including four generals, faulted in the latest Pentagon report on the case of the NFL star-turned-soldier. Those recommendations could also come next week.

2. Is it just me,
or are we seeing a constant effort at adjusting the reality to fit the story? Photographs manipulated, email records erased, data lost, records moved and/or changed....and we have always been at war with Eastasia. What the hell! We're not stupid, but it seems to work. Why?

Or rewrite it. Conservatives were very busy doing their best Stalin impressions over the last few years. It goes with the History channel (Or was it Discovery?) poll suggesting that Reagan, of all friggin' people, was the greatest president...Evah!

6. I've heard that truism.
And I hate it, and don't agree with it. For example, in this modern age, the winners were those who marginalized and secretly, using various methods, killed the Native American nearly out of existence, but history has now included those once silenced victim's voices and added their culture to our history and heritage. I don't believe that kind of truism can stay true forever, but I hate how this administration is attempting to repaint history in their own colors by destroying evidence in a more sophisticated method than ever before. It's as if they have better tools and are trying even harder to make their own reality all the while knowing what really happened.

PS: Reagan? Great Communicator? Greatest President ever? Bullshit! It was his best role, and he was cast well and did it well by living the part.

4. Well, there was the strategic information office designed to
selectively modify information. Of course it was closed and NEVER intended for domestic use . . .
