OK, this is f'in ridiculous...

Check out the alert on the top of the page. I went here to see why the bomb squad and television cameras were on my campus (the University of New Mexico) but I only found this stupid alert.

In case you miss it:
"Clovis High on lockdown
The school says a student was seen with a baseball bat on campus. Stay with KOB.com for updates."

:eyes:

16. Don't laugh. A local school has temporarily banned backpacks
due to a threat.

17. Lockers Were Banned In Ours Until
parents became outraged at the weight of the bookbags our kids were forced to carry. Personally, I liked our Junior Highs solution, duplicate sets of books, one for home, one for school. Worked great.

6. Oh No - Not A Kid With A Baseball Bat
Too stupid. I got a call today from my schools supeintendent saying they had stationed police at his school because of a threat at a school in a neighboring town. That school was closed. Hmmm, kids get a day off if a threat is made. Wonder if the kids have caught on?

11. Indeed ...
Whenever I hear someone say that VT should have been locked down immediately (perhaps so), I can't help but think that our society will be paralyzed if that thinking is applied everywhere.

We had 3 local High School incidents this week. One involved 2 students who were threatening some kind of carnage on their MySpace pages (including suicide). They have been arrested (I think).
Another incident involved Janitor who found 3 bullets in a bathroom garbage can.
These sound like they type of situations that DO need to be addressed.

Sorry, but someone with a baseball bat is harmless. Sure they can get in 1 good surprise attack, but after that they are harmless.

Cheers
Drifter

18. What's with all the sarcasm, folks?
Gosh, there was a time when the mass media said "boo" and you'd all wet your pants and look to Dubya to save you, like good little patriotic Americans. The Bush administration remembers that time wistfully as the good old days, when they could even launch a war on dubious pretexts, and every major media outlet would be right there, cheering them on as modern day colossi, striding the earth and putting things to right.

Now you're all analytical and stuff, and even the massacre of 33 people on Monday doesn't keep you good and scared and obedient like it used to. It is to weep for the forces of fascism and repression.

They'd call in a B-52 strike at the first sign of someone in camos carrying an automatic rifle.
