Should we have just let the Taliban go on being a bunch of killers and thugs because "they had nothing to do with 9/11" except shelter Al Qaeda?

Again, the point of my post is trying to state the current conflict in Afghanistan to prior conflicts in that nation is like stating World War II was just like any war that had its epicenter in central Europe.
