Michigan Regional Jobless Rates Down In 14 Of 17 Markets

LANSING, Mich. — Unemployment rates have edged lower in 14 of Michigan's 17 major labor markets.

Unlike national and state rates, the regional unemployment rates reported for October on Tuesday aren't seasonally adjusted. Michigan's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was highest in the nation in October at 15.1 percent.

The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth says jobless rates rose in two major labor markets from September and there was no change in the Upper Peninsula.

The September rates ranged from a low of 8.8 percent in the Ann Arbor region to a high of 16.7 percent in the Detroit area.

Jobless rates were substantially higher in all regions in October than a year ago.
