10. Seriously, I'm appalled as much now as I was when I found out about the escalation.
I thought Afghanistan was the right thing to do after 9/11 - then Bush screwed it up with his Iraq misadventure.

Any opportunity for doing the right thing for us and Afghanistan was lost long ago.

I hope President Obama & his advisers came up with a plan that gets us to victory in Afghanistan, or at least gets our troops home alive & intact.

I'm afraid it'll be another clusterfuck, but I hope Obama's smart enough to know what he's getting into and knows how to succeed.

And as much as I would have concluded it's not worth it to remain in Afghanistan, at the same time, there are issues like the treatment of Afghanistan's women that I'd like to see resolved in a way that doesn't involve girls getting acid thrown in their faces or getting shot for the horrible crime of going to school or not wearing a burqa. I have no love for the Islamic fundies and will shed no tears if we do find a way to kick their sorry asses.

And I am glad he chose to impose a withdrawal timeline. At least now, the President of all people is actually talking about us getting out of Afghanistan, which is an improvement over the previous "We're there as long as it takes" crap.

23. I feel like its 2004 & Bush gave a speech last night.
... I am embarrassed to say that I, a lifelong Dem and liberal, was doing a Joe Wilson imitation last night.

"we do not torture" ... but rendition is still happening, Mr. President.
"Guantanamo will close" ... umm ... sure it will, Mr. President.
"9/11 came from Afghanistan" ... actually, most of the hijackers were Saudi's, Mr. President.

In other words, YOU LIE, Mr. President.

Obama has drank the Bush-Cheney Kool Aid, and disappoints me beyond words.
Progressives of America have been punked.

Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 11:13 AM by Neecy
Such as, for instance, reducing our troop presence in other parts of the world instead of sending the same units to the ME again, and again, and again...at least I wouldn't view him as Bush Lite...

If he had cut some of the obscene costs of these US outposts he'd reduce resentment worldwide and start chipping away at the Pentagon's imperialism. But the war machine rumbles on, completely undisturbed.
