U.S. Military Needs Help Transporting War Dead

April 19, 2007 --- U.S. Military Needs Help Transporting War Dead

The U.S. military is looking for air charter transportation services to help transport human remains of armed service members who die in combat.

On March 20, the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., released a pre-solicitation announcement looking for air transportation service "to transport escorts, and human remains of armed service members who die in a combat theater of operations or who die of wounds or injuries sustained in a combat theater of operations." Missions normally originate from the mortuary facility at Dover Air Force Base, Del., but in some instances may originate from other locations. Flight coverage includes the Continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and other North American countries.

The charter service must be able to perform four simultaneous missions per day, with each aircraft capable of transporting two casketed humans remains in air trays, and two escorts and luggage. The contractor must be able to perform an estimated 70 movements per month.

The military would like to start using the air charter service in August.

Don't they usually go by air?

Or is it just that the numbers are expected to go up? :grr:

6. Business opportunity for someone who has access to
large aircraft. Our tax dollars will go to someone to make them rich while regular folks keep getting killed. Culture of life my ass.
