Wow! Even a major Texas paper calls for Al's resignation on the editorial page.

Let's assume that the bumbling dismissal of eight U.S. attorneys was not an overt attempt to intimidate them or impede politically explosive prosecutions.

The evidence doesn't unequivocally prove that. But let's just assume.

Even so, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' long hours of testimony Thursday didn't repair the damage done by his defective leadership.

Gonzales admitted mistakes, accepted responsibility and told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee he's "always sought the truth."

But then he proceeded, under sometimes withering questioning, to contradict, backtrack and evade. He failed to show a grasp of how much support for him has ebbed. And he demonstrated that he just doesn't get how many ways this mess looks wrong.

2. The Editor is ahead of some of the slack-jawed readers who write LTTE
Sometimes I want to reach into the paper and slap some of the ignorant knuckle-draggers who get their letters published. You can tell that they only listen to the fantasies spilling out of Fox or the bile oozing out of Rush.

I'll never forgive the S-T for supporting Bush in 2004. Who spiked their KoolAid?
