I Am So Sick of Politics and Politicians I Could Puke
Why am I here? Hearing all the b.s. here and on cable news and in the blogs has just gotten too damn depressing. This country is full of friggin' idiots and idiot politicians.

Sorry. But I just have to purge.

1. Maybe a little reading-up on human nature would make it...
easier for you to cope with the simple fact that humans are greedy, selfish, mean, venal and all the rest - but the good Lord gave us
the capacity to overcome our character flaws and negative human traits.

2. yeah, it would be nice if we could just vote for them and trust them to do the right thing
instead we have to call and protest and give money to issue groups and tell pols we're going to withhold money from them, and even then, they don't do what we elected them to do but what their country club buddies tell them to.

Something has got to change, but few people seem to be willing to do what is necessary to make it happen.

4. Whatcha gonna do about it?
Why don't you run for office?
Start with your local school board.
That's where the right-wingers started, and that's why we are in the mess we are in now...

5. thanks for the conservative talking point
politics sucks = government sucks = let's drown it in the bathtub.

Why are you here? I am here because I want to make a difference, and to do that I need both allies and information, and also, let's be honest, to share information from my awesome erudition.

As far as people and politicians being frigging idiots, I think that is looking at things wrong and simplistically. People are people, and I think Vonnegut was right when he had Lasher write "... that there must be virtue in brilliance followed by stupidity, for Man is alternately brilliant and stupid ..." That is true of everyone, you, me and the person in the tree. It is silly to look at a stupid statement or a stupid action and write a person off as a 'frigging idiot'. It is both unfair and wrong, and I doubt if you apply the same merciless judgement to yourself or anybody else you love.

6. This has nothing to do with conservatism, so please don't turn it into that
I've been a left wing crazy man for most of my life and what I said above holds true for pretty much all politicians and politics these days.

People ARE friggin' idiots. I've resisted that notion for years, but what I see happening around me day after day is flat-out idiotic. Brilliance, I'm afraid, is a true rarity. Which is probably why we value it so much.

I think a study was done recently that said that the average IQ in the U.S. is 98. I thought that was pretty generous.

My notion that people are idiots is not based on one stupid action or stupid statement, but on many, time and again, over the many decades I've been alive. I'm generally an optimist, but lately, looking around me and seeing the world continue to go to shit, does not make me feel very optimistic. We can't even pass a friggin' decent healthcare bill without the iditos -- on both sides -- getting involved.

You're here to make a difference. That's great. I just don't see much of a difference being made.

This world has the same problems it had 50, 100 years ago. We've taken some steps forward and a lot of steps backwards.

7. Do something outdoors. Preferably with a dog.
Dogs don't care about politics, which would be a good influence on you right now.

Or, read a classic novel written at least 50 years ago.
