"We must increase troop levels in Afganistan in order to withdraw!": What the sales pitch will be
Edited on Sun Nov-29-09 01:05 PM by grahamhgreen
My guess is that we will see a marketing/sales campaign based on this concept starting Tuesday, and over the next few weeks/months.

Obama will be the chief salesman/pitchman.

How could they sell an escalation of the war to the majority of people who want us out? By telling them it IS getting us out!

Kind of based on the 'war is peace' model, only they will package it as this (necessary) 'war will lead to peace'.

IMHO.

Be interesting to see if this unfolds.

In the end it is important to remember that PEACE ALWAYS WINS IN THE END.

2. unwinnable war. Only question is how much $$$ and blood we will spend before we withdraw
and declare victory...

4. Yes it's unwinnable. I'm sure even Obama (hell, ESPECIALLY Obama) knows that.
We're no doubt there for other reasons involving oil/gas, pipelines, Pakistan and China.

15. THERE IS NO OIL IN AFGHANISTAN. Please stop repeating this nonsense.
There isn't any substantial amount of gas either.

16. I know that; however, there is both oil & gas in certain other regions
that could be best accessed by pipelines across Afghanistan to India & through Pakistan to the sea.

Here is a map.

18. But there are pipeline routes
which is one theory as to the real reason behind the length of this little military adventure.

Another concerns Afghanistan being the #1 heroin producer in the world.

Which is correct? I doubt we'll know the truth in my lifetime, if ever.

What I do know is that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

7. It's very telling that his speech is being made at West Point.
Kinda like giving a speech endorsing DOMA at the Vatican.

9. I doubt that an anti-war crowd would cheer to his satisfaction.
But, he could give one to crowds of cheering supporters at Boeing, Raytheon, GE, and other stops on the MIC circuit that includes West Point.

10. Hiding behind the troops just like Bush did eh?
I really wanted him to do it from oval office. Just seems inappropriate to make the announcement in front of a crowd.

12. Technically, you do have to "call in the movers"
if he decides to simply withdraw and pursue regional diplomatic solutions. It takes a few more troops to haul away all our stuff - not tens of thousands, but it would be a kind of increase.

20. Looks like I was right. They simply take whatever point they want - however nonsensical
and attach it as the reason they they are doing something, be it war escalation, giving billions to banksters, or fining people who can not afford health insurance and calling it reform.
