2. Oh, yeah!
But none for me, doggone it. I'm the only one in my family who likes it, so it doesn't happen here.

3. What I like best about green bean casserole is that
the can of French's potatoes only gets partly used, then nobody thinks about it. That means I get to snack on them, right out of the can, for the next couple of days. I don't really like the casserole. I'd rather have lightly sautéed green beans and leek rings with slivered almonds. Much tastier, and way fewer calories.

Trouble is...I'm the only one who likes them, so I'm making the usual casserole again.

10. Alton Brown has an tire show dedicated to making a version of it
He starts out with fresh green beans, makes "oven fried" onions with panko crumbs and home made mushroom sauce. Someday I will have to try that for a family dinner. The original Campbell Soup green bean casserole is just not something I would serve for a meal for company and any other time it is too much and too nasty for just the two of us.

9. My mother, the non cook, tried it one year
My dad looked at it and said "Should I or did I?"

That was the end of that. The next year she discovered slivered almonds and that was highly preferable.

12. Absolutly.
I'm flexible about other holidays, but not Thanksgiving - turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie, and GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE. I don't like cranberries, but they are pretty and someone always eats them.

13. Yes, but use fresh beans.
Not the canned stuff. Cut the beans into pieces, and blanch in boiling water for just a few moments until they turn bright green, then take them out and put them in ice water. Then use them in place of canned beans in the recipe.

14. my response?
:puke:

That crap is really gross. I always suspected that people who don't know how to cook green beans make it to cover up that fact.

19. Yack--too salty!
Love the turkey bowl though.

I would put my recipe for killer sweet potatoes in it. I lost the original long ago, but have been making it many years: Cut and peel sweet potatoes or yams into casserole dish. On top, slice a stick of UNSALTED butter (the real stuff), a generous sprinkling of pecans (I have used other kinds of nuts), a sprinkle of nutmeg, a sprinkle of cinnamon, AND drizzle honey over the whole thing. Cover with foil and bake for an hour or so at 350 degrees or until potatoes are fork tender.

Smells wonderful baking, and beats the hell out of that marshmallow/pineapple mess.

20. my grown kids.....
ask for it each year...

I've tried healthier options in the past...they didn't like the "substitutes"
so since we're only together this way a couple times a year...and have these only once...

they get their wish!

21. noooooooooooooooooo
A vegetable dish full of processed chemicals and loaded with sodium. What an insult to the noble green bean!

I'm roasting white asparagus for dinner, with just a slight drizzle of olive oil and a light sprinkling of salt and pepper.

22. That looks good,
but I only fixed it once for my extended family so that was enough for me. Green beans & potatoes are on the menu for me this year and that's good enough.

BTW, I love eating the French's onion rings out of the can too. In fact, it goes great with a sandwich so it's a great substitute for potato chips.

23. I can't believe I had to make it this year.
Daughter by marriage had a melt down so I offered to do some of the cooking and she assigned the green bean casserole and mashed potatoes to me. The potatoes I don't mind as I have my secret ingredients to make the spuds special, but the casserole, I really don't like.

25. I love it.
Can't have Thanksgiving without it. reprhensor could not believe our American devotion to it, and isn't crazy about it.

I'm converting these wacky Canadians, one way or another.

28. I make a modified version of it, again this year, and a huge amount, huge hit.
Everyone loved it, even the kids.

I also made 10 lbs. of garlic infused mashed potatoes, and nearly all 10 lbs were consumed. Unreal.
