17. Agreed
Her dress is stunning, she's a knock-out, and her and Barack DESERVE a break for all they do.

Michelle would look beautiful in a burlap sack.

So I have to ask: can't just a little of that ostentatiousness go to help out some of those less fortunate?

I mean, just a little? Not everyone is partying in DC tonight.

66. "Flaunting it" isn't proper in diplomatic situations.
However, she IS tall and there's no reason to hide that fact. If she wants to wear heels that's her business.

very apt for the WState Dinner.

57. No that was not my point and I do realize you don't really care what my
point is.

reply #21 does show my point and just to add. Isn't it India where our grand corporations of sheer greed sent many of our jobs. I'm not blaming Obama for that. Yet just for me personally in my own conscience mind an event such as this should have been toned down.

Now if the US were not in such a sad and sorry state well then by all means have even a bigger bash. Yet at the same time through my 61 years when we have wars and death and all sorts of in-equality no matter who was the president this sort of grand party tradition does not seem appropriate.

I won't even address your insane comment aimed at me. I'll go With Carlins mindset.

I was responding to that, not your opinion of the appropriateness of a shindig during this poor economic time.

I hope to hell they're better than most, that's the entire point in choosing our top executive. The dress is quite extravagant - but she does look beautiful in it.

I did not say the Obamas said they were better than anyone . What I was saying is that the people make them appear so.

I see things differently, is that ok? Is it ok that I prefer to look at people as all equal as far as being human is concerned. Is it ok that I prefer not to place anyone on a pedestal no matter who it is?

Perhaps I should have kept my thoughts to myself and I would have yet the title did not indicate photos , so I clicked and there were the photos and it's not just the Obamas but the entire thing , the place the entire feel of it that got me going, just the idea of people that are heads of two countries where the people are lossing everything ,many are just slaves. I see people on the streets everyday and to see this just rubs me the wrong way. This is where better than anyone else comes into play.

>>>who the hell cares , look around , nice they have such a great night

Good to see that there's a few other insensitive asshole here.

Don't get me wrong. Michelle is the queen of elegance, especially when adorned in a Naeem Khan dress.

I'm thrilled the menu was all vegetarian. The guest list was kept to only 300 -- bravo. Jennifer Hudson, who comes from a very poor Chicago neighborhood, maybe even belted out a well-deserved song of appreciation to Michelle and Barack.

But really, was anyone at that party thinking of the folks who couldn't make it to the evening's festivities?

27. Welcome to DU and thanks for the needed reality check.
All that finery is fine and I'm delighted to see these formalities pulled off so elegantly after years of seeing a dumbass richboy fratboy sociopath with severe disorders behaving like a sadistic dunce.

But I thank you for bringing attention to the way things are for far more people than were represented at that eat-and-meet.

49. OK, perception isn't objective.
My perception is they did it just right and me and mine aren't living the lush life.

India is a valuable and important ally - democratic, shared language, big player in Asia and a counterbalance to China and Pakistan, further has always had a talent for science and technology. Thanks to Bush we have a lot of fences to mend and India is a good place to start. We could do worse.

I perceive nothing wrong with getting out the best dishes and silverware for an important guest.

Finally, no matter what the Obamas do, the rightwing will howl. If they downplayed the visit, the MSM and wingers would accuse them of insulting the Singhs. If you can't win and can't break even, don't play the game.
