Palin angered by 'sexist' Newsweek cover (that she posed for!)

Look familar? It should.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/20091117/pl_ynews/ynews_pl984

For the second time since Sarah Palin stepped into the national political spotlight, a photo of the former Republican vice-presidential candidate featured on the cover of Newsweek magazine is sparking controversy. Palin herself blasted the "out-of-context" cover as "sexist" on her Facebook page.

Originally published in the August 2009 issue of Runners World, the photo features the former Alaska governor in short runner's shorts. It was part of a multi-photograph slideshow that accompanied an article about Palin and her love for the sport titled, "I'm A Runner." In her Facebook post late last night, Palin took issue with Newsweek using a photo from an article about health and fitness to promote an analysis piece contemplating her relevance as a political figure:

"The choice of photo for the cover of this week's Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this "news" magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner's World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness -- a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention -- even if out of context.

Let me see if I've got this straight: It wasn't "sexist" when she posed in shorts. But now suddenly the male chauvinist pigs at Newsweak have offended her. :eyes:

Oh yes, extra style points to Caribou Barbie for using the American flag as a prop.

4. Hi Peggy
I doubt sarah read the caption. Part of her "allure" to southern rednecks is her "sexiness." Dontcha know that the white guys in gop board rooms are going berserk over her existence.

13. If she didn't want to appear cheesecake, she shouldn't have posed cheesily.
She did this while Governor of Alaska, and after running for VP.

Any stupid pose she puts out is fair game. You don't see Dick Cheney or Biden doing beefcake photos. (sorry for the mental image)

3. Well, to be fair, it's one thing to print this on a sports mag cover and another here...
She didn't pose for it to be used on Newsweek.

7. She's just mad they didn't use this one...

(damn, though, as much as I want to piss on her complaint, I do think she has a point... They should have used a more conventional photo (like the one in her office on the bear skin covered sofa and the giant crab that someone posted this morning--LOL)

8. U S flag as a prop
Used improperly I believe.

It is not hung on a flag pole, nor on a wall, it is draped over what looks like a chair. I think that usage violates the laws on proper display of the flag.

11. I'm sure one is not supposed to lean on a flag draped over a chair...
If one is even supposed to throw a flag over a chair. Screw the shorts - perhaps that was why Newsweek used the photo. not very presidential, is it?

10. I have a big fat piece of news for you, Sarah--You ARE irrelevant!!!
Edited on Tue Nov-17-09 03:24 PM by rocktivity
You gave away your armor of respectability when you voluntarily left political office. You're just another jockey for national media attention with the rest of the wannabees now. You think they're giving you attention--even in an "out of context way"--because they see you as NEWSWORTHY?

Besides, didn't you know what plans they had for the cover? Didn't you ask? Did you even bother to volunteer to pose for one? If you had, and they used this instead, your complaint would be legitimate. And true to form, you're so busy crying "sexism" you don't even seem to care that the text on the cover flat out INSULTS you!
