Freedom vs. safety
I see no difference in justifying government invasion of privacy (wire taps, the reading of emails and snail mail, no fly lists, etc.) from justifying taking away gun ownership rights.

Are we willing to give up our freedoms to keep us safe from somebody? The right wants safety from foreign terrorists, the left from fellow citizen lunatics toting a gun.....isn't it all the same issue? We can live and die free and take the risks of that choice or have at the illusion of safety and give up our rights.

So, do you truly believe in freedom for all or for a limited few with a limited viewpoint with which you agree? I think if it is the later than you are deluding yourself if you believe you truly support freedom.

Personally I choose to live free. I prefer not to die any time soon but I want to live free until my time comes.

1. Do you feel oppressed that you can't drive a tank on the street?
Do you feel less than free because you can't walk around with a shoulder-mounted rocket?

The fact is that limiting the kind of weapons people can own, and who can own them is within the government's reasonable

purview. If there was a serious movement to ban all guns, you might have a point, but that ain't gonna happen.

As for the question of freedom vs. security, I want less invasion of people's privacy with out just cause.

America's love of guns COSTS you freedom. That's why you have to pass through a metal

detector at any federal building. (Psst - guess what - a lot of other countries don't have to do that)

And one can make the argument that wire taps are within the government's reasonable purview. It's all a matter of justifying that which you agree with.

8. And even as a liberal, I think there are times when wiretips are justified.
Problem is that Buscho thinks they don't need warrants or just cause.

Nobody here is calling for an outright ban on all guns, and I think most of us recognize the necessity of wiretaps in monitoring suspected criminals and terrorists. Nobody wants an outright ban on them either.

Neither issue is an either/or question. It's a question of balancing individual rights and public safety with the constitution as a guide.

2. It's better to be as free of guns as possible the hide behind the "safety" of a gun
How can one be free when you are forced to carry a gun everywhere and go through metal detectors into every major building? if guns made men free, Iraq, Afghanistan and Columbia would the freest places on the planet.

3. You know it's the f---ing airplanes that should be
grounded, 4 planes killed nearly 3000 people on September 11. And the cars look how many people get killed by cars every year. Those damn ATVs, it seems like someone around here gets killed every weekend on those evil murderous things. Maybe a better remedy would be to regulate the sale of gasoline. :sarcasm:
