Bar Association Calls For Investigation Of Bush Admin Official For Boycott Of Gitmo Lawyers
Group calls for Bar investigation of Bush administration official
Last Update: 1/27/2007

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A coalition of San Francisco lawyers says a Bush administration official violated legal ethics when he called for a boycott of law firms that represent Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Now the Bar Association of San Francisco is calling for the California State Bar to investigate Charles "Cully" Stimson, a deputy defense secretary and member of the California bar.

Earlier this month, Stimson told a Washington radio station that more than a dozen law firms assisting detainees should be boycotted.

Nanci Clarence, president of the San Francisco group, says a lawyer's duty is "to represent the defenseless and oppressed."

3. Glad these attorneys and judges are starting to fight back.
If we can't rely upon them to fight for everyone's rights - who can we rely upon?

9. Have you written to the DC Bar?
That is the authority who would investigate or take action.

11. That would be too cool!
Do you have to live in DC to write the DC bar?

10. Or moving to disbar the JAG officers for "failure to report" ongoing torture and Geneva violations?
Every lawyer in the chain, save Alberto Mora, may be due a trip to The Hague.

It's pathetic, even for lawyers, that the only thing that moves them to action is someone threatening to "waterboard" their wallets.
