I've been on post lock-down before - if this helps others right now
Edited on Thu Nov-05-09 04:06 PM by Solly Mack
Soldier accountability is a necessary step right now and this will mean phone calls home won't be easy to make. The post will be trying to account for all their soldiers. The post will be on alert - which means more soldiers will be needed for guard duty and those soldiers will also find it hard to call home right now.

Please, I know it's hard - but just breathe and hang in there. It's not easy, I know.

You're in my thoughts.

1. Thank you for posting this.
I remember you posting something similar when my nephew's FOB in Afghanistan was under blackout because of the death of 4 soldiers. We were frantic -- your words helped me get through.

Thanks again.

3. I know nothing will stop the worry - nothing eased mine really
but I want people to know there is a method to the madness right now - and that DU is there for them.

I'm glad I was able to help. Thank you!

7. Why I love DU.
We snap, snarl and growl at one another, but we rally around whenever any one of us is in trouble or needs help.

12. Dear God
Godzilla could have strolled through that building and not been noticed until it was too late. Done my share of out processing both as wrangler and herd member; it's a Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

I edited my above comment because I meant to post that comment elsewhere, but you're right. They wouldn't notice until it was too late. (and didn't)

17. Hi Cerridwen!

Soldiers there are sweeping the perimeter and that will take time. So, families will have to wait that much longer. :(

By now they would have already started notification of the next of kin or family members of the wounded. :(

20. Hey, Solly.
I've been watching online video and keeping up over in LBN.

Tragic doesn't begin to describe this.

Thanks for putting this up here for those who might need to know what happens during something like this on a military base. Most of us have no clue whatsoever and that usually leads to panic.

I know what that wait is like. The not knowing. I just wanted to help if I could.

25. Yep. A real tough period to deal with.
Especially when being at home base is supposed to be safe.
