Hey New Jersey (x-posted)
(taken right from my Facebook page)

What the fuck New Jersey? I thought you were better than this! WTF Asbury? WTF Long Branch--- I spend the last four days walking the streets and you can't even get out and vote? Hello!? Look where it got us--- we lost Trenton and we lost Monmouth County! What the hell do I have to do to get my fellow Democrats out to vote? People died for this right, and you just take it for granted. WTF?

Edited on Wed Nov-04-09 12:31 AM by BrklynLiberal
for..

They will see major services disappear or cut to the bone....

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

You want nice things..you have to pay for them...
roads, schools, lights, clean water, service in govt offices like the DMV, clean streets, clean air, public transportation, etc etc...it all costs money.

2. I know
Lucky for us, we still have the Assembly and Senate (although not in Monmouth County despite our hard fight).

I say that we as New Jerseyans treat Chris Christie the same way the GOP in Washington treats President Obama. Fight him every step of the way.

5. Corzine should have been primaried
and known he was unpopular and let someone else take the job. His campaign could have been much better organized.

6. Corzine should have had more meetings with Imus and the Rutgers b-ball team

The guy was a stooge. I can't imagine anyone being happy to vote for him, even against a turd like Christie.

7. Several challenges/problems.

Corzine left with unenviable mess of cleaning up state financial crisis brought on by * and former Governor Whitman. The former cut federal taxes to the state, the expenses increased, the governor didn't raise income taxes or increase fees, the debt ballooned, and the price was paid via property taxes (which you can't dodge like federal income tax).

Corzine didn't make a compelling case for re-election. He knew he was doing the best he could but it wasn't conveyed to the voters.

Low voter turn-out. May one out of three registered NJ voters went to the polls. The election was decided by a minority of residents.

North vs. South Jersey. NJ seemed divided more particularly this election. 101.5, the radio station that broadcasts to central and south Jersey, trashed Corzine and his policies more than Imus. Callers used it to air their outrage.

Urban vs. Suburban. Corzine MIGHT have garnered more votes if voters in cities like Paterson, Newark, New Brunswick, Clifton, Camden, etc. had "got out the vote". But it appears that the suburbs, worried about keeping their McMansions and individual school districts, ruled the day.

9. we made so many inroads last year
we have the advantage in voter registration (about 10K more than the GOP), we made the county so purple last year (Obama lost by 3 points). Asbury Park and Long Branch came through big time. I talked to so many people on the streets the last few days (standing at corner stores, delis, bus stops, train stations, etc) and tried to get them fired up to vote.

I really would like to see these two communities organized. Long Branch is home to a great Congressman Frank Pallone. Even driving by his office yesterday with the Bus for Change. A bunch of kids were outside doing paid canvassing and not a single one was fired up. I don't want to take away from the congressman, but he really needs to start getting people fired up too, especially in his hometown. He did a great job at the rally in Newark, and I wish he would do the same in Long Branch.

Monmouth county CAN go blue. It's just a matter of getting the Democratic base in Long Branch and Asbury Park out to vote, and to get the under 30 crowd to the polls. It can be done. I'm ready to take this on as my personal mission.
