Denver public TV plans nonprofit news operation
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 05:30 PM by Ardent15
DENVER—A Denver public television station is planning a nonprofit investigative news operation with a Web site and on-air program.

KBDI-TV said this week it will launch the project when it raises an initial $400,000.

A news release didn't set a target date. It said the project would ask for tax-deductible donations but didn't say who possible donors might be.

Station officials didn't immediately return calls Tuesday.

4. We Had One In Chicago For 30 Years...
WTTW's Chicago Tonight is far and away the best local news report...focusing on a handful of local stories every night. Also many universities have their own reports in combination with journalisms schools. The other PBS station here does an evening report produced by the Medill School at Northwestern University. It's a pleasure to watch a news report with actual news, not loaded up with restaurant critics and moronic sports asshats.

6. I remember when KBDI started up as an alternative to the more stodgy KRMA
It was the offbeat cousin and has remained a treasure.

7. Yeah Whilst
KRMA continues to be the stalwart, KBDI seems much righter than in the FM-TV days. especially with the running and rerunning of "Capitalism to fascism" over and over at nausea.

We shall see just how "non-profit" it will be. My guess is it will be yet another "fair and (not so) balanced" propaganda outlet.

8. I think you're referring to
the late Aaron Russo's "From Freedom to Fascism". That's an interesting piece, and highly preferable to some of the pap that often comprises the fare on public television. KBDI shows a lot of programming that the other PBS outlet doesn't offer, so it's a welcome alternative. Kudos to them for taking on the new effort, it will be interesting to see how it develops.
