1. I bought one of those a couple of years ago from Urban Outfitters...
It's really cute... The sad thing is I never took it down.... Looking at it right now. :-(

3. Yeah, it breaks the irony meter all right. Been around for a while.
The only way it'd be worse is if it were made of aluminum, rather than the plastic I think it's made of.

Not that I have anything against actual aluminum trees. At least they don't pretend to be other than what they are.

The problem is that for those of us who were kids in the '60s, even a commercially produced Charlie Brown Christmas tree--like the aluminum trees he scorned--seems like a fond memory of a simpler childhood. Our youth was already commodified, even then. Our favorite memories of toys under the tree are usually not of rag dolls and wooden trains, but of plastic toys from major manufacturers. And compared to what kids have now, what we had seems primitive and ancient and pure.

Better to keep in mind the lesson of the Grinch: Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store.

But, then again, if you want to buy a stuffed Grinch, you can. Many sizes and prices are available. :shrug:
