Thinking negatively can boost your memory, study finds

<snip>

In one of the experiments, happy and sad participants were asked to judge the truth of urban myths and rumors and found that people in a negative mood were less likely to believe these statements.

People in a bad mood were also less likely to make snap decisions based on racial or religious prejudices, and they were less likely to make mistakes when asked to recall an event that they witnessed.

The study also found that sad people were better at stating their case through written arguments, which Forgas said showed that a "mildly negative mood may actually promote a more concrete, accommodative and ultimately more successful communication style."

"Positive mood is not universally desirable: people in negative mood are less prone to judgmental errors, are more resistant to eyewitness distortions and are better at producing high-quality, effective persuasive messages," Forgas wrote.

3. When I was unhappy all the time
I always felt that way.

"I'm not being a pessimist I'm just being a realist."

Boy was that a lie.

And I told it to myself for over a decade.

Glad that's over with.

6. Actually
You never said you were unhappy.

And neither did I.

But if you are unhappy and would like to talk about it I'm down.

2. That makes total sense.
Most people I've met who are generally unhappy still let's their past affect their present. So of course they have a better memory. Their used to remembering all the bad things that have happened to them.

If being happy means forgetting a few things and making bad decisions sometimes. I say, it's worth it.

This article really makes no difference though because in my experience people who are unhappy are there by choice.

Unless happiness is circumstantial.

Which if that's the case then it's STILL not the individual that is sad or happy it's the situation.

Unfortunately circumstantial happiness is all some will ever know. Sad.

7. It is harder to remain
happy and hopeful in trying times than it is to allow one's self to become sad and full of despair...I choose to remain hopeful regardless my position.
