Which Glock would Pollyanna carry?
For me, refusing to own a gun in America is a political statement.

It literally means risking your life to make this country a better place. It has NOTHING to do with naivety.

1. To insist that you need a gun for self defense is, for the vast majority,
just paranoia.

How many times have you seen posts in the last couple days - "I've never had to use mine, thank god, but I have a ...".

Well, if you never had to use it, you think it maybe was unnecessary in the first place?

I've lived in questionable neighborhoods, and I've been burglarized, but I don't live in fear. In fact, if I had owned a gun it probably would have been stolen by now.

3. How many times
have you been attacked? I don't live in fear anymore because I am armed and can protect myself.

5. I was attacked twice and successfully stopped my attackers without a gun
granted they also did not have guns, but if they did would I have been able to draw before they shot? Who knows?

I know it sounds strange to say, but I see guns as a non-issue that cause as many problems as they solve. I don't want to outlaw them, but I hate how much weight our soceity gives them.

6. My dad was raised
in rural west virginia in the 30's and 40's and having a rifle was a way of life. I was raised around guns and never thought twice about it. It wasn't till after I was raped at knifepoint that I armed myself. I was already proficient in shooting and practice regularly. I don't think guns are the answer either. Effective law enforcement would really help. I learned though that the police will not be around when I need them and I have no problem taking personal responsibility for my own protection.

2. I would never carry a gun. They are too heavy and bulky and

my pocketbook is heavy enough. They are hard to load and difficult to shoot. Someone carrying a can of mace would have had a decent chance of bringing Cho down.

4. I have no trouble
loading and lots of time at the range has made me proficient in shooting. Practice is everything.

11. get what she said ...
Guns are not practical for 2/3 of the population. Sure if you're used to them, young, good hand-eye coordination and all that, they might work for you.

You ignore the fact that most people could never be proficient and they would be misused more often than not.

It's one thing to advocate for your right to own one. But it's ridiculous to advocate that others should depend on them for self-protection. Guns would be useless to most people in America. Unless you want this place to look like Iraq, or other parts of the world where children carry guns, forget it.

14. I am 50 years old
not exactly a spring chicken. I am a good shot because I practice.
I am not advocating for others to own them and never have. I am advocating for my ability to own one.
It is misinformation that they are hard to load and too heavy to carry. I am disabled with MS and can do it.
