2. After eight (actually, much longer) long years, we naively thought that victory was at hand.
What innocent children we were.

It seems that winning elections is the tiniest part of progress. And certainly not the most important.

8. It's only been 1 year. A year from now we'll wonder why we were so pessimistic today.

This is probably the wrong time to say this, but I'm going to try anyway.
If.

If we win tonight.

If Obama takes the White House, and the Democrats manage to secure a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

If.

If that happens, remember one thing.

WE WILL HAVE WON NOTHING.

Not yet.

Nothing except the chance to work harder than we ever have before.

The hard part comes tomorrow, and after January 20th.

The hard part comes when we have to maintain the level of passion, intensity and involvement AFTER the election is over.

We have to help with SCOTUS, as there may be as many as three vacancies coming.

We have to help fight against the inevitable right-wing backlash.

We have to help win the midterms in 2010.

We have to help fix the economy.

And health care.

And education.

And Iraq.

And Afghanistan.

We have to fix the Constitution.

We have a lot to do.

If we win tonight.

If we win, enjoy it.

Enjoy it, get some sleep, and then suit up again.

The hard part starts tomorrow.

If.

14. Ahhh yes...
You have to understand that it was a tumultuous time for our nation: the first Indian lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1 gave us all a reason to live.

An Alaskan legislative committee found that the Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her authority in terminating the Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan.

And the domestication of the dog continued unabated.
