US Congratulates Afghan President on (Stealing)2nd Term
Source: AP

KABUL — The United States and its allies have congratulated President Hamid Karzai on winning a second term following a proclamation by the country's election commission.

The Monday ruling ends a two-and-a-half month ordeal wrought with fraud, back-room negotiations and worries that the Afghan government might never regain credibility.

The U.S. embassy said in a statement that it looked forward to working with Karzai to support reform and improve security.

The statement said the commission's decision, made after Karzai's lone challenger withdrew, was "according to its mandate under Afghan law."

The British government and the United Nations also issued statements of congratulations.

2. Kerry worked to get a runoff election, then HRC goes to the region talking like W instead of a SoS

and now the entire region is back to distrusting us the same way they were before Obama took office.

Clinton is STILL backing Bush's way of dealing with that region? I hope Obama reins her in or puts her through diplomacy school. If he asked for this type of belligerence in his 'diplomacy' then he's a dolt, but, I doubt that he approved her remarks.

3. Do you honestly think Hillary is doing this without Obama's approval?
What does that say about Obama's leadership if his SoS is able to walk all over him like you suggest? Think about what you are suggesting here.

The fact is the SoS carries out the President's foreign policy agenda, whatever it may be. If you have a problem with any aspect of our foreign policy your unhappiness should be directed to Obama as he is the one whose policy is being carried out.

4. If Obama DIRECTED her to speak belligerently then he was wrong - she sounded no different than when
Edited on Mon Nov-02-09 10:39 AM by blm
she was mouthing off like a hawk backing up Bush on HIS policy in the region.

Knowing how tight Clintons are with Bushes and Saudi and Dubai royals, I don't TRUST either of them at all in that region. AT...ALL.

10. I would think if Obama had a problem with her message or how it is delivered, it would be made well
known to her, the Afghan government and probably even to the press in some way. And if she continued doing so in defiance of his orders, she'd be out. Her job is to carry out HIS foreign policy agenda, after all.

A president can't have a SoS openly defying and undermining him and it just wouldn't be tolerated, nor should it be. We have every reason to believe that not only is the President aware of what she is saying and how she is saying it but that he approves of it as well. To suggest otherwise simply paints Obama as a useless fool.

17. I disagree....I think she said it as she wanted consistent with her siding with Bush
and his public belligerence and while privately doing whatever was the bidding of the region's royals.

We don't know what has been said since between WH and State, but, I hope like hell that type of rhetoric has been reined in for future diplomatic efforts.

If Obama doesn't then he WOULD have made a foolish choice.

6. Well, there is a battle in the WH between those that want to work with Karzai
and those that don't and think he is total corrupt liar. This merely reflects that. Obama makes the final decision if we send troops over there.

8. Karzai probably isn't smart enough to realize the Republicans get back in power again and they ...
... will have the Marines digging him out of some spider hole just like they did to Saddam.

These guys never learn.
